I don’t know if they can stretch that frame much longer, they already have issues with tail strikes on the -900’s. The only way to do that would be to raise the gear but that would lead to a whole other list of problems.

Is that a CC-150 Polaris landing in your 6th picture? If so, does Canada have a military base overseas?

I thought the 7E7 was supposed to replace the 767 and 757 whereas the new lengthier 737’s were aimed at the 757 market too? Didn’t Boeing say something to that effect in their statement concerning the closure of the 757 production line the other day ?

The increased capabilities of Boeing’s newest 737 and its future 7E7 will fill the market now served by the 757, Boeing officials say.

    There you go. 🙂

The A319/319/320/321 can be flown using one licence…

So can the 737 Classic and NG’s. Southwest, Delta and Continental are a few that operate both. Pilots are qualified to fly both with their single type rating.

Well in all fairness, Airbus proved the benefits of a common type rating and cockpit commonality.

But how successful have they been? The A318/319/320/321 series is no different than the 737-100/200/300/400/500/600/700/800/900 series. I’m assuming that the A300/310 are the same but what about the A330/340? I don’t think any particular company has achieved a true common type rating breakthrough. The closest would be the 757/767 series as those 2 aircraft are quite different. I would also include the A330/340 if they are the same too.

I wonder with it being referred to as a mini-7E7 if Boeing would be attempting to achieve a single type-rating for their aircraft. Could you imagine the cost savings in training for an airline?

BA has never operated the 747SP either – in fact very few airlines have operated all 747 types. (only SAA, Saudia,Qantas & Korean I think)

    What about United?

ValueJet went under soon after one of their DC-9’s went down in the Florida Everglades due to a fire in the cargo area due to an illegally boarded oxygen canister. The company was saved and renamed as AirTran a number of years ago.

I think companies that are on poor financial ground can’t weather the aftermath of an accident. American and United lost a total of 5 aircraft in 2001 and none of their current financial troubles stem from that.

Pan Am went away thanks to the poor managing.

Sometimes the camera will focus on the glass rather than the object. My old camera had a button you could press to override the range detector and put the camera into an infinate view mode thus eliminating any problems from shooting through a window. Check your camera you might have a similar feature.

I’ve always wondered, does Midway actually handle any international flights or is it used purely for domestic services?

ATA and Southwest are the 2 big airlines out of MDW and Southwest doesn’t do any international. Looking at ATA’s route map it appears they do a number of international flights.

Which is the older of the two airports, Midway or O’hare, and where are they situated in regards to Chicago

Chicago Midway opened as Chicago Airpark in 1923. O’Hare opened in about 1945. In 1962 all commerical traffic was transfered to ORD making it the busiest airport in the world Obviously MDW started commerical operation again in the future.

ORD is about 15 miles to the NW of Chicago while MDW is 10 miles to the SW. They’re fairly close to each other. MDW lies under the Class B airspace of ORD.

I think with a little work the last one is the winner of that lot.
