Nice pics Frank. I was there as well and had a great time although the weather was far from nice part of the day. Shame the Fishbeds aborted their take off but I was standing close to them when they started their engines and this was already a nice show. 🙂
We talked to an Algerian Fulcrum pilot who was walking around and enjoying the static and he stated they’d be there with some Fulcrums next year.
This year they had been invited too late to still get all the paperwork done so only the pilots could attend but not their aircraft.
He particularly enjoyed the MiG.21’s and my friend used the pilot’s camera to take a pic of the pilot and some family in front of the Fishbed. 😀

I don’t like demoteams very much at all but the only team’s show I keep watching is Frecce, the others get boring for some reason. During the other team’s displays I just get catch up with some sleep that I missed while driving most of the night or by getting up early to get to the show. 😀
Came back from a nice weekend in the UK tonight. The RIAT as always had amounts of aircraft you don’t see anywhere else but still I was slightly disappointed. I might be spoiled though since I visit quite a few airshows more than most people do each year.
First of all A LOT of confirmed participants did not show up at all. I was most disappointed by the fact that these ‘non-showers’ included my expected highlights. (MH-53E’s, USAF C-40, a lot of the promised C-130’s!!!)
What bothered me most about this was that some aircraft (Italian F-104’s for instance) on the list in fact never even confirmed that they would be there, it appears now. Seems like the RIAT just wanted to get a few more spotters/enthusiasts there?
Also where were the promised F/A-22, MiG-29 or Rafale? There were no eastern European aircraft at all actually except for the 2 Lithuanians and Polish M-28. Rather disappointing.
Can’t say there were any real highlights at all either. All the exceptional stuff has been at RIAT’s many times before.
Of course I can imagine the people living to far away to attend thinking ‘what an idiot, I’d sell my sister to get a chance to visit a RIAT’ but I just had to vent some steam after my disappointed, sorry. I’m just used to better RIAT’s and just like last year’s this was the least-good (‘worst’ sounds to negative) Air Tattoo I’ve ever been to.
Koen
P.S. I did like the Brazilian C-130, Italian Do.228 and other C-130’s that did make it a lot.
I think this topic needs to be shut down before it really runs out of hand. Incognito’s only goal is to upset people and unfortunately people haven’t started ignoring him totally. People just don’t pay attention to anything posted by this sad person, he’s not worth spending your time on…
Nice pics, thanks for sharing Dimitri! Especially the one with the landing Hip is a nice and ‘operational’ picture.
For those of you going to RIAT; the L.39ZA (06blue) and An.26B (05blue) from Dimitri’s pics will be there. They will also visit Kleine Brogel next week for the spotter’s day.

Wow soo many dutchie people..
Add another four Dutchies to that soon, I’m leaving for Fairford with three more tomorrow night. 😀
I have.
Well, you sound French to me. Which is nothing to brag about. I refuse to buy french wines now. I suggest you do the same.
With foolish posts like these your credibility goes down even more by each post… (if that’s even possible)
You might want to join some anti-France forum somewhere on the web to post your b*llsh*t there.
The french haven’t won a war by themselves in centuries. Hell, they are the only country that lost TWO wars to the Italians.
Ah yes wars that were fought over a century ago indeed have much to say about the current state of the French AF…
In Desert Storm, they barely scraped together a few thousand soldiers to go to the Gulf. Their aircraft refused to fly missions outside Kuwait because they were worried it was too dangerous (in other words, they refused to fly any real missions against any real targets, given that the Republican Guards were positioned just north of Kuwait, and given that strategic targets were obviously outside Kuwait).
This has more to do with political reasons than anything else. It doesn’t say much about France’s actual capabilities in a war. Especially not if it was a war that really mattered to the French. If they would fight against the UK, which is the main competitor for France in this topic, I doubt they would consider missions to attack the UK ‘too dangerous’.
the French transport fleet includes 65 C-160 (I don’t know how many are still able to really fly, though :s) ; 14 C-130 H (including 9 C130H-30) ; 20 CN 235 ; 2 DC8, 3 A310
we begin to be desperate about our transport fleet, the A400M program takes too long…. (50 ordered, first deliveries by 2008-2009)
Don’t forget the 14 C-135FR’s and the two A319’s…
Wonder why they rented a Mi.26 for that since a Chinook can lift another Chinook….
No surprise there – those Antonovs are really regular visitors at Geilenkirchen. Their sound hardly ever makes me run to the balcony anymore.
Not just Geilenkirchen, a few months back we had as many as 8 or 9 in a month here at Eindhoven and there have been several at Gilze Rijen… The KLu should have bought one or two! 😀
all potential adversaries in south america operate Mirages in theis diferent versions.
Camaro.
Yes, so France chosing sides is not a very smart move for them.
dear friends, Peru and ecuador are far from being nato partners, nor anybody’s partner nor gone against any nato partner, so whay did they (the french) failed to supply ???
Camaro.
Problem might have been that both sides operated French equipment.
Hi Koen,
ex-Israeli AF/DF A-4N N269WL/159536 of ATSI based at Williams Gateway in AZ being used (leased?) by AvDef of France….as far as I know.
Yes, I was with Paul and the others on Sunday: I was the other tall fella with really short-cropped hair in shorts with a telescope in a waterproof cover over my shoulder. Was me and one other who started to walk first after getting bored waiting for le petit train! 😀
Ah I already thought I recognized the ATSI badge on the tail. I’ve been to Williams Gateway but didn’t see this one there so that’s nice.
Were you the guy checking what aircraft Paul’s son (I think it was?) ‘made’ at Avord and Lann Bihoue? 😀
