Odd test serial here then…salvo fire saturation attack with disparate weapon types, with disparate control suites, and different attack profiles against a minimum aspect target.

OTOH, if you ever want the stuff to work in real combat, you have to test out more challenging set-ups as well.
This ship is about 111 metres long, 3500 tons, so size of a small frigate. Probably a real warship would be tougher than a barracks ship, but given how widespread the fires are, the odds for some sort of ordnance brewing up must be quite high.

I dug around a bit, and these barracks ships were actually made in Finland. PKZ-35, which met its grisly end here, rolled out from Valmet shipyard in 1986.

Someone mentioned footage showing the Moskit entering terminal evasion. What is the time index of that?.

At about 3:09 in the original video. It’s not obvious when one views it the first time.

I’ve wondered if supersonic anti-ship missiles should have warhead at all. Just fill it up with fuel, it adds range for extreme warshot, and works out as a warhead if the target is closer and the missile has unspent fuel.

The amount of America-strong in there is overbearing.

It’s more F-16 fanboism which grates me. Some time ago I decided to check out F-18 Hornet -thread there and man, was it full of garbage. There was like 1 or 2 guys who seemed to know what they were talking about, but their comments were buried by all the mindless noise about how F-16 totally owns the Hornet in every respect…

Nonetheless, the target remains afloat…. (compare to e.g. torpedo hit)

Doesn’t matter, nearly any fighting ship will be hors de combat after that kind of impact, with widespread damage to comms, weapons and sensors and huge number of fires all over the ship.

It does look like one missile came from descending angle (only the first missile leaves a wake in the water): if this really was a Bazalt-Moskit double whammy, it is mighty impressive given how disparate the missiles are.
In the end of the video, where Moskit is shown in-flight, you can actually see the ‘dance’, terminal avoidance maneuver: alas, the actual impact is hidden by cloud.

What happens when Moskit (or two of them) hit a target (@ 1:20):

Actually looks like it was hit by 2 different missiles almost simultaneously?

Ukraine crisis: France halts warship delivery to Russia

    http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-29052599

    Possibly two Mistrals going cheap…..

Au contraire, if anything they’d cost signifantly more than stock cost.

Anyway, the delivery is only ‘frozen’, not cancelled.

Yep, and the ideia of going into battle in a subsonic, sensorless, gun only, no pgm’s, missiles, whatever, against the first and second Warpac echelons in germany by the eighties makes the charge of the light brigade look like a very nice plan.

“On my command all planes will line up and fly directly into the Soviet death cannons, clogging them with wreckage.”

But yeah seriously, the Scorpion looks nice and all and I am moderately impressed with quick development time. However, there are many planes like that already on the market with roughly equivalent unit costs, and few of them have found major success, so it will be hard pressed to get sales.

I don’t think Sukhois were operable at that point yet…may have been a chopper pilot, wasn’t there a report of a helicopter shot down?

    Excellent speed.

Maybe they can get some SMs when time permits.

I read somewhere this has been negotiated since March or April, but speeded up due to recent events?

Maybe Georgians can sell them the Scorpion variant…

The planes look bit banged up, but I guess it’s to be expected. Cool – I have a KP Su-25 and I thought about painting it to Macedonian AF colours, but maybe I’ll make it Iraqi after all.

mercernaries means retired soldiers which simply cannot handle the task. Irak needs active pilots that are trained on advanced simulators and active flying, can use communication system with air to air and air to ground operations. mechanics that can maintain aircraft for round the clock the sorties. and basically unlimited supplies of missiles/rockets.

The point of this kind of deal is not to get the most efficient, modern, capable air force on the planet, but get some planes and pilots in a situation where you need them yesterday. Few aged jets with mercenary pilots may not be that much, but it is better than no jets and no pilots.

My guess is AMARG, U.S. couldn’t take them without paying, but probably will “wait” on delivery until things stabilize.

Exactly. Within 20 to 30 years, there will be a stable Iraqi government to whom they can either deliver the planes, or pay compensation. So nothing to worry about!

To be honest he is grasping at straws a bit, he does have air power.

Well in fairness to Maliki, Iraqi air ‘power’ is minimal. Basically handful of attack heloes and couple of lightly armed transport planes are only ‘sharp end’. No question attack jets would have been handy trying to contain advance of ISIS, even though maybe not decisive.

I mean in China you can get an iPhone clone at 10% of the price. not the same quality, but it will work, and not a bad alternative when you can’t get the real thing

It’s actually exact same phone, only difference is the Apple logo on it 😀

Iraqi PM Nouri Maliki: Russian jets will turn tide

Iraq’s Prime Minister Nouri Maliki has told the BBC that he hopes jets from Russia and Belarus will turn the tide against rebels in the coming days.

“God willing within one week this force will be effective and will destroy the terrorists’ dens,” he said.

He said that the process of buying US jets had been “long-winded” and that the militants’ advance could have been avoided if air cover had been in place.

Isis and its Sunni Muslim allies seized large parts of Iraq this month.

Mr Maliki was speaking to the BBC’s Arabic service in his first interview for an international broadcaster since Isis – the Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant – began its major offensive.

“I’ll be frank and say that we were deluded when we signed the contract [with the US],” Mr Maliki said.

“We should have sought to buy other jet fighters like British, French and Russian to secure the air cover for our forces; if we had air cover we would have averted what had happened,” he went on.

He said Iraq was acquiring second-hand jet fighters from Russia and Belarus “that should arrive in Iraq in two or three days”.

    —————————————————————————————————-

Funny stuff. I kinda agree that F-16 deal was bit lousy, but perhaps he should avoid giving antagonizing statements about US at this situation.
