I think its quite clearly a statement and part of her artistic process. Why bother smelting the aircraft seperately and individually stamping each ingot. I don’t like it either but she was entitled to do as she wished with her property.

Thank you and further help would be much appreciated. I would like to try to get hold of one of the F-102’s being used as decoys or an A-7.

    Many thanks.

Hello all. Does anyone know who to contact within the Hellenic armed force to discuss the purchase of some of their older derelict aircraft? Many thanks.

Surely the pilot may have closed the canopy after exciting to keep the sand out with a view to the possibility of the aircraft being recovered a short time later. For all we know he may have stayed with the aircraft to await recovery using the cockpit for shelter and protection at night and therefore kept it closed during the day so as not to have to sit in a sandy environment the following night. Upon the day of rescue (or abandoning hope and walking) the canopy would have been shut in the morning. Also could the prop and reduction gear not just have been sheered off by the motion of the prop and ripped of and flipped over the aircraft?

It looks pretty real to me too. In the last picture the terrain just viseable through the glazing seems to match. My uncle has been a high level consultant with Exxon for about 30 years and has seen some astonishing relics in north africa, sadly most were just driven or flown past and very very remote but there is still stuff like this out there. You’d probably die before finding it though.

Sorry chaps, didn’t mean to be the cause of so many panties getting in a bunch. It was the situation in the Maldives developing at the time that was causing issue. I dont think in this instance anyone need worry about opsec as the hush hush was designed purely to prevent panic among tourists and their families.

Just an update, they are home and cannot divulge what happened. All that was said is that it was really serious and they came as close as possible to being deployed before being stood down. He said he’s sure it will come out due to the nature of the situation but until then…… Thats all folks.

Anyone interested in a Project pannel from RAF Tucano ZF200? It’s a bare pannel but in excellent condition.

My other thought was some sort of Olympic related exercise? Just can’t fathom why they would pick these guys when they are on leave. Especially this one guy as he was home for the imminent arrival of his baby?

I had wondered if it could be to assist with problems relating to the extreme cold weather in Eastern Europe or maybe the Argies are getting a little over excited with Prince Williams arrival and all?

What’s worth remembering is that these guys had only just returned from Afghanistan and were at home on scheduled leave.

I didn’t. The ID was provided by Guy, the chap who owns Hathor. I will undertake a thorough inspection to confirm things before I make any markings up!
