bah! you guys are too good!. gonna have to get a lot more tricky then. yes you are spot on. its the engine compressor bleed duct for venting excess compressor air . seems like john is getting all the gold stars here. PJ a close second.

here it is on the n2 engine. and bleeds out through some slots in the skin.

guys, I can confirm 100% we will not be painting 579!, theres no way we want to cover that glorious all metal finish. As for markings, we wont be able to win whatever we do really:D so she will stay in all metal finish, with one side saudi warnings and markings, the other side in RAF pseudo ferry flight markings that she flew back with. As for fast taxis, not at present, although she will be fast taxiable, sept 11th put pay to any chance of using Gatwicks runway, due to security. lets see what the future brings.:)

Your lady is looking rather nice mjr, how far off completion/runnung are you and your team?

thanks PJ, she is nearly there. we currently estimate she will be finished about this time next year.

heres one of 904. weird angles always seem to flater on the lightning. Dennis Brooks in the hot seat.

If I remember my servicing course right, (it was a fair while ago) there is a line connection between the pitot and the over wing vent valves (OVV’s). If an OVV leaks internally, it can run through the line and drip out the end of the pitot. We are talking about an a/c that leaks out of every orifice imaginable.
Q: How do you stop a Lightning leaking?
    A: Defuel it.

yup OVV datum chamber is connected to the static system so that the ovv knows when to vent @3psi over atmospheric. if the ovv internal chambers perish, tank vapour/fuel can leak back into the datum chamber and static reference lines, which also casues the ovv to continuously vent, and you get a nice white stream over the wing in flight:D how sad is it to know that off the top of yer head! LOL

    try Aeromech.

but be warned, you will get nowt on the cheap!. The bullet fairing alone will set you back a few hundred, since all their stock is new with paperwork.

all the Mk stab outer tips are intricate composite honeycomb covered with bonded L73 sheet, hence why the tip has crumpled so badly. its a real crime that, since that tip is irrepairable. You will now have to de-rivet the entire tip along the outboard rib, visible in the last photo, and have a fibre glass or plastic replica tip made to replace it. Did your transport firm have the beacons lit up whilst parked?
