an amusing thread, makes me chuckle that a bunch of grown men like us (and women on this thread), can be so easily drawn into school boy antics like this ๐Ÿ˜€

At the stand at Fairford I was told first hand that she will be ‘rolled out’ in the first week in September, I’m with Papa Lima on this one, lets just wait till then and let the tin delta do the talking (I hope!).

    Regards,

    John.

Ditto, I was told the same thing at Brunters a week ago. Thats a pretty bold promise to make, if the aiframe was no where near! Why would any organisation set themselves up for such a huge fall, if they were not even close? just remember any cash short fall will probably include the support funding for her actually making he first number of flights, once shes complete, including , fuel, insurance etc etc. With any vintage flying venture there is always a shortfall on paper, even when the aircraft is operating. I personnaly dont read much into the rumours. Im sure the project is marching on.

I think I’ll buy it, and then chuck a huge lawsuit at DSA for selling it to me as “serviceable” ๐Ÿ˜€

Imagine the responce. “ooh we are very sorry, we didnt notice that one, if your not satisfied you can have your money back?” No NO NO NO, I dont want my money back, I want what was advertised, now get me a serviceable Lightning! now! :diablo:

To MJR many thanks for your input and help, see you soon mate.

Sorry abou 904’s no2 going sick at the end, ‘thats Lightnings’ for you, though 7 out of 8 starts is a good record for us and the two old girls.
We will fix her before August 27th, when we intend to run her once, 728 will be on cockpit tours all day.

Thanks for posting some nice shots, we never get any ๐Ÿ˜‰

As for Mike Beachy Head talking to the CAA I couldnt possibly comment its the first Ive heard of it.

Once again thanks to all who attended a great day thats got us a little nearer getting some concrete down in the ‘shed’

    Cheers
    Andy B ๐Ÿ™‚

Andy, no probs it was a pleasure, A great weekend, home from home, apart from the running bit! ๐Ÿ˜€ 904 was totally awsome!!!!, after her performance on the first run, I think she was more than entitled to enforce that she was still boss in the afternoon :p thats pretty much the best Lightning reheat run I have ever seen, absolutely perfect, and a total credit to you guys.

Ill get a copy of the run video to cd asap. Did you go down sunday too?! you must have been bush wacked last night!

    cheers

    See you Friday ๐Ÿ˜€

I bet wifey has something to say about that one ๐Ÿ˜€ Dont talk to me about bloody reheat! Its been driving me friggin bonkers doing the wiring for it! and thats before going anywhere near the flippin pipes!! I think well just chuck a sparkler up the back end when driver says “now”. fliipin nora, Italy just scored two goals in the length it took me to write this, how did that happen!

    XL391, your pretty much there,

No1 engine is the lower and No2 is the upper engine. and yes they are staggered, no2 being much further rear ward than no1, resulting in number one interspace pipe being all most 3 times as long as no2. both reheat pipes are the same length though.
Since no1 jet pipe is that much longer, the no1 engine hot shot streak of fuel ( which comes from the engine combustion chamber and ignites the reheat cocktail) has to travel a lot further to reach the reheat pipe. the no1 streak of flame travels almost 11 feet to the reheat pipe. The light ups are slightly out of phase as such to compensate for n01’s extra distance, hence why No1 often appears momentarily longer and brighter over number 2. Whether you notice or not depends on the driver.

If your there on Sat, have your asbestos underpants and suit at the ready and stand directly behind 904, you may witness this phenomena ๐Ÿ˜€

I was inside her the other week. Lots of instruments replaced (not sure if they are totally correct) and in very good condition, especially externally. She does need work inside, but when you think someone wanted four big ones for another ‘well known’ Vulcan nose six months ago… ๐Ÿ˜ฎ

was it a pleasurable experience when you were inside her?

    Sorry. couldnt resist it :diablo:
