Too bad, cause i still think the F-35A is not the right platform for Norway. We should throw a re-tender right now, cause the last one stinks all the way to the bank!

and what do you think is the right platform for Norway?

Tranche 3s, 2s and 1s are production units, not capability units.

i see so they still lack those capabilities. thanks.

Hurkus is a more capable replacement of KT-1T (engine and aerobatics performance-wise): Turkey already did not exercise the +15 option for the KT-1T, which has proved to be a little bit of a disappointment.

yes, I hear Turkey has been disappointed with many Korean products as of late.
so Hurkus will replace KT-1? good for Turkey.
they can sell the KT-1s to Indonesia.

What makes you think Tranche 1 Typhoons won’t receive anymore upgrades before 2017, which seems is what you’re thinking, like they’re currently are? Even in their current form I’d take them over the Su-22 any day of the week.

On the other hand, Poland will most certainly replace them with F-16s.

extra costs to do something their existing F-16s can already do.

So for the 100000000 time.. will there ever come F-35A ‘break shute’ for icy runways, for Canada/Norway etc countries?

Ind if it does, who’s gonna have to pay for that party?

lockmart sez: buy F-35B instead and land vertically. problem solved!

According to last “lotnictwo” magazine Polish Air Force is going to replace old Su-22 with 16 used fighters (probably F-16 or Eurofighter). The fighters should enter service around 2017.

why would Polando replace their Su-22 with eurofighters with limited a2g?
what would make sense is eurofighter replace their f-16s in air policing and move the f-16s over to a2g
    or more f-16s for commonality.

I’m getting tired of “Goldust” and “PLA-MKII” bringing the JF-17 into every thread, so here’s something for you guys to salivate over…a potentially new “stealth” version of the JF-17 spotted in a promo video on the PAC website…and it includes a DSI!! 🙂

I don’t see the advantages of such a design.

it doesn’t really receive the stealth benefits of a full stealth design because of all the external stores and mostly conventional lay out
it receives the aerodynamic disadvantages associated with faceted structures

    worst of both worlds.

JF-17 and J-10B are currently the only operational jets having DSI.

Mirage 2000-5 has a narrow angle HUD, not a wide angle HUD like J-10B has. As for reputation, the days of Western domination are over. The West can’t do squat in Syria or any other country anymore because BRICS says the days of Western imperialism are OVER. Technologically, J-10B blows away F-16E the one UAE has. Bring an F-16E up against a J-10B and I guarantee you it would be shot out of the sky so fast it would be funny.

J-10B’s AESA cooling vent is pretty much the same as the one on F-16E. J-10B looks scarier than F-16E due to DSI air intake.

so what are the advantages and disadvantages of DSI?

    Ink,

I guess the talk of potential threats in medium/long term is unimaginative because of assumption that NATO will continue to exist in the future.

NATO guarantees defence but it also limits action. Any offensive action against a neutral country could cause the offending party to be booted out of NATO, have sanctions placed on it and sabotage important economic links.

Obviously investment is required for the future, especially as Serbia isn’t part of NATO.

does Serbia want to join NATO? I know they want to eventually re-unite Kosovo, Croatia, Makedoni back into Serbia.. and their time window is becoming smaller and smaller as they will eventually join Nato.. the time for Serbia to attack is now.

as for a joint AF with these countries.. wont happen.. half are in NATO and the ones who aren’t (Albania, Croatia, Kosovo, Bosnia) don’t like Serbia.
Perhaps if Serbia worked with a bit more distant power like Ukraine.

Nope. Out of ten ex-Czechoslovak machines only two are active today. All other currently active MiG-29AS and UBS come from later deliveries.

and where did the later deliveries come from?

    speaking of which
Poland also operates mig-29s and they are doing fine even if they are from an earlier batch. the newer ones they received are old German and Czech models.

Serb MiG-29s entered service in 1987 and are some of the oldest in the world.

indeed they are, but the Slovaks seem to be doing well with them still.

    Where’s Turkey gone?

They’re still there with 240 F-16C/Ds (including new attrition replacements) and 50 F-4 Terminators, stand off missiles, as well as AWACS, tankers, large transport fleet, not to mention J600 SRBMs, 14 submarines, 16 frigates and one of the largest armies in Europe.

they’re gone from serbia and bulgar my friend.. well maybe not bulgar.. but bulgar is allies with turkey

The MiG-23MLD upgraded to use R-77 is a potentially decent system. I always felt the MiG-29 was too much for its role and the Russians should have focused on a single engine plane to augment the Su-27. While the swingwing is outdated to modern standards, the MiG-23MLD still was cheaper to upgrade than to build new MiG-29’s. Perhaps rather than focusing on delivery of two big bomber-destroyer missiles the MiG-23 should have shifted to four to six active radar guided missiles.

The engine on the MiG-23MLD isn’t too shabby as has been explained in this forum. The armaments were the weak point.

    yes but would a mig-23 + su-27 combo be better than a mig-21 + su-27 combo?
i think the latter might be more cost efficient.
    hell
the mig-21 has downed the mig-23 in combat as well!
