that’s pretty cool, but I was referring to the viggen scheme which looks like this

anyways, lets continue this in the whatif thread, more relevant there.

just noticed you’re from Vietnam, is there a Vietnamese Pak-fa image out there?
I think within 30 years, they’re a very possible customer.

looking back, those luftwaffe ww2 era camouflage are still probably the most effective designs. they really make the plane blend in with the scenery. I’m surprised more don’t do that after the war.

    here’s a Japanese YF-23

    http://orig06.deviantart.net/c901/f/2015/239/0/8/yf_23___japan_air_self_defense_force_by_jetfreak_7-d5iz78w.png

we know they always wanted the F-22, not the F-35. I’m surprised they didn’t try work with or buy the blueprint to the YF-23 and build an F-22 equivelent themselves.

to clarify, I think the Pak-fa series, is one of the few planes that look good in any colors.
    the other is Rafale.

pakfa in korean and luftwaffe camo 🙂

wow those are awesome. did you do that?
do you do requests? if so can you do
Pak-fa in: Swedish “Viggen” colors (the jagged one), USN Jolly roger colors, East German AF colors (like the mig-29)?
I’ll make it worth your while

i agree air superiority enable strikes, not that it is normally contested these days,
but on the falklands, it was the incompetence of the commander in chief that failed to prepare a runway on the island,
the argentines were flying on fumes in combat zone

    No.
They can wait and strike them when the fighters are still sleeping on base like what the Jews did to the Egyptians.

You have to remember that around here a “well known fact” is usually whatever a fanboy wants to believe.

agreed. only fanboys get defensive and butthurt when someone makes a negative comment about their favorite airplane or country.. and answers back making equally bad generalizations (oh deserts are good for Russian helicopters) lol.

Yes I thought that was just a diversion off topic to side by side two seaters in general. How about the lightning? I personally prefer the look of the two seater. And the Canberra for sure that offset cockpit never looked right but somehow managed to suit the Sea Vixen.

i agree, its better for coordination with your copilot. but side by side makes a wider draggier aircraft. not a problem for trainers or strike aircraft, but maybe an issue with fighters

    Rafale.
Typhoon might have better attributes for A2A but in real life, A2G is what wins conflicts and is more prioritized. Most of the conflicts Typhoon and Rafale have been in are bombing campaigns. its few A2A use is air policing which can be done on any fighter airframe to be honest.

the Typhoons biggest problems aren’t its technical aspects, but political ones. 3 of the 4 main users are reluctantly adopting it and don’t plan to aggressively update it because they’re getting F-35s. (Spain will come back).
Germany, the most important operator that isnt an F-35 customer, has no political will to update them.

They have built a rather extensive infrastructure to maintain Tomcats, Phantoms and Tigers. On top of that the IRIAF Self-Sufficiency at TFB.3 have learnt how to bring at least a few of the ex-Iraqi Mirages back to flyable status. Fitters were refurbished with help of Ukrainian advisors back in 1994 but considered unsafe – they only were brought back fifteen years later by Pars Aviation which generally does Russian aircraft.

I have yet to see the IRIAF Mirage carrying anything else than drop tanks.. The mods on the F1EQ-4 to carry Kh-29L were made by Iraq, not Iran.

the best person to ask is Tom Cooper, but for some reason this forum and his has issues with each other.
but i am sure i saw somewhere Mirage F-1s were modified to fire R73s

te. Russian helios can operate in desert condition much better vs western Helios. That is a well known fact!

o rly, can you please show us some statistics of operational rates of an air force using both western HELOS and Russian ones in desert conditions?
i can’t find it, but maybe you know since its a well known fact.

    IRIAF:
    F-14As are 37-39 years old
    RF-4Es are 45 years old
    F-4Es are 43-44 years old
    F-4Ds are 46-47 years old
    F-5A/Bs are 50 years old
    F-5E/Fs are 39-41 years old
MiG-29s were delivered 22-25 years ago
Su-24Ms were delivered 24 years ago

what is the extent they can overhaul them and rebuild the airframes? seems like they could nearly do it compltely with the F-5 and AH-1s as well as modifying the mirages to fire russian missiles

^ Saw your question in that other thread, Mr. Smoked Pork, and no – I don’t really do requests. Not a Photoshop wiz anyway, and I only bother with it if there is something nagging in my head. Something that was nagging was that MiG-23UB in Swedish Viggen-ish colours. I put it back in the Frankenplane thread but as has already been said, it’d fit better in a “what-if” context. Whaddya know, you started a thread and it’s way more relevant here so I’ll just be lazy and re-post it.
    .

aww that makes me sad. would love to see more things in Swedish viggen colors (Pak-fa and rafale).
or even east german colors (pak-fa). what if i made it worth your while 😉 (non sexually)

The Rafale is one of those few airplanes that can look good in any camoflage. but sadly I haven’t seen it in a swedish splinter scheme yet.

Kovy did a number of good Rafale photoshops
