The F-35 decision was premised upon the supposed wisdom of operating a single fast jet type. That rationale was thrown out the window when F-35 couldn’t deliver on its promises and had to be supplemented with Super Hornet. The decisions to acquire Super Hornet, and later to make the acquisition permanent, were sensible enough in a bureaucratic sort of way, but this ignores is how irresponsible and misguided the decisions to join the JSF program, and later to confirm F-35 as Australia’s next combat aircraft, were in the first place. Those decisions should never have been taken, and everyone knows why they were taken: because the nation under John Howard was fully committed to licking America’s balls and serving as its ‘junior sheriff’ (as G.W.B. put it) in the War of Terror.

yes but could the x-35 have met the promise of delivering with just a single fast jet type?

I would also try to get interviews with pilots and maintenance crews. I think it is important to give an idea of how the aircraft is operated.

^^this!!

unless you have direct connections and sources, you have no credibility.

and it seems you might not have such a connection. relying primarily on articles and forums.
but that doesnt mean you can’t make such connections. everyone has to start from somewhere..

you can begin by pulling out information from military and developer sources..
if you can get new information that’ll really help sell your book! stuff that’s not out yet..
stuff that’s not classified.

in order to do that, you need a bit of sexy time. either hire some one to persuade the information out.
or if you can’t afford to hire one
use yourself

Problem is, jets flown by Saudi Arabia or the like are errrr…. not very professionally flown. Also, they are too fat and comfortable to pick a fight with anyone directly.

unless they’re flown by western Mercs as is the case with a few of their aircraft.

so, how is the F-7 superior to Iran’s F-5 clones?

Nope, I did mention continue with AMCA. Also there’s indigenized PAK FA (FGFA).

The Tejas does not offer anything new. Much like the JF-17 it is borderline obsolete.

you should be a guest writer in PLA-MKII’s new book.

Hi All,
If the proposed Stealth aircraft the Iranian media was touting, If they can’t build it why not ask the Russians to build it or a one off partnership ? they may pull it off as a rock bottom entry level Stealth aircraft ?

Geoff.

why would the Russians want to help them? I know the west thinks Russia and Iran are buddy buddy, but the truth of the matter is.. the Iranians hate the Russians. They only tolerate them because they hate the Americans more. the Russians wont bother with Iran either unless they can get away with charging them 300% above value price. see Iran-Russian nuclear cooperation or lack of.

I agree that MRCA is too long in the tooth.

However cancelling that I would put the money into buying existing platform (more MKI) or getting Tejas Mk2 into service faster and in larger numbers…or put for the long term programs (FGFA acquisition or AMCA).
Not another platform from yet another supplier who might very well be at odds with Indian foreign policy at some point in the future.

I agree with the Thobbit, TR tank, and MC Cross.
F the MRCA, F the Rafale, F it all… F as in finalize the cancellation.
and yes Tejas is basically the Indian JF-17.
but not everything needs a big fat sukhoi or stealth fighter to deal with so I see some merit in keeping them.

F-35 makes logical sense, but India wants to develop its own industry too.
how about a compromise.. rather than outright buy F-35
India develops its own AMCA with Lockheed (or Boink) as a major partner.
basically make an F-35 customed to India..get rid of the VSTOL based design
go for a twin engined design, perhaps something off the shelf like two F414s
it would look something like this

unlike these guys here, I think you should totally do it.. but here’s a few things to keep aware of and some things you can do to help.

1. publishing costs money. especially because right now you are a no name guy. you’re going to have to use a lot of your personal funds to get it going at first. Deino had the help of others.
2. but publishing is a high risk high rewards thing…. if you get it out right, your profit margins will be high!
3. you probably need to take out a considerable loan and sell off a few things like your car. but if you do it right, the investment will pay back quite shortly, so you should take that sacrifice
4. if money is hard for you, go out and get alot of people to advertise in your magazines to help pay for it. since you are still a no name guy, you’l probably have to get unorthodox adverts.. so try going after Chinese wholesalers, prescription medication suppliers, adult entertainment industries, etc. but do NOT use religious sources. People tend to look down upon them.
5. i know you want to talk about jf-17, but you should make your book spicy by talking about how bad its rivals are too.. it’ll make jf-17 look good. perhaps you need a section on gripen and tejas
6. when you are done with your book, i’ll scan it and post the full pdf on keypublishing, secret projects, aicg, cdf, cmf, pakdef, defpak, br, f16 net, tanknet, among others to help market your product

Their are limitations inherent to size. The more you add loads the more relatve drag u add.
And the famous Janes study was deleted since. Noon8e can review te he methods used.

yes i agree

BUT, Malaysia already has its “size”
they fly the Flanker.

Of the four original partners , two of them are commited to the JSF, and only one, Italy, intends to use it has is main ATG workhorse. Of the seven Eurofighter operators only two, etc, etc, etc…

yes but if you look closely at those 7

UK – f-35 user and major contributor to typhoon. also major F-35 partner. trying desperately to get rid of its existing aircraft.
Italy – f-35 user, will use it for a2g
Spain – f-35 user but too poor to fund further integration on their own
Germany – your hope lies there but they are comfortable with their Tornado and they lack political will to do t on their own
Saudi Arabia – many other aircraft already with good A2G capabilities
Austria – they dont want A2G capabilities
Oman – will consider it only if some one else pays the cost

you make too much sense TOAN, but the typhoon mafia will argue “just you wait”

A. Original orders:
USAF has decided to upgrade all of its 220-plus F-15Es and to keep using them through 2035, while the four European airforces have decided to cancel Tranche IIIB and to get rid of their own Tranche I ASAP.

indeed, the F-15 and Flanker have a bigger user base than the typhoon that ensures it will see continued upgrades for a long time.

B. Exporting orders:
The Strike Eagle family has already gotten 260-plus exporting orders from the four different foreign airforces in the past 15 years, while the Eurofighter gets less than 100 exporting orders from the three different foreign airforces, and 24 of the exporting orders are just directly from RAF’s orders to RSAF without compensation.

the typhoon mafia will say.. just you wait and see, give us more time.. its unfair Eagle had more time to sell. unfortunately life isnt fair. the demand for typhoons is low to begin with. and its already an obsolete design. typhoon is getting its ass kicked by people who can afford 5th gen, operators who already have a decent heavy (Flanker or Eagle), and people who want cheaper operations (Gripen). like wise Rafale has a similar issue, but at least we know its already multirole ready and will get its aesa.

C. AESA radar:
The Strike Eagle family has already two kinds of productional choice right now (APG-63v3 and APG-82v1), while the Eurofighter is still waiting and wishing that somebody will pay the god damned prcie to make the productional CAPTOR-E become the truth one day……

mafioso will say.. just you wait.. our aesa will be better. but this assumes that f-15’s aesa remains stagnant and no upgrades are made or no new models introduced

[qoute]
D. A2G capability, 2013:

* Strike Eagle Family:
JASSM, KEPD-350, Delilah, Popeye, SLAM-ER/AGM-84 Block II HARPOON Missiles, AGM-88B HARM Missiles, JSOW family, JDAM family, SDB, USA/Israel LGBs from 500 Ib to 4,500 Ib class …….

* Eurofighter:
1. LGBs….More LGBs……More and more LGBs……….Can you just introduce something new other than LGBs !!!???
2. It will be as capable as Rafale and Strike Eagle in A2G area one day !!! (Unrealized advertisement from 2006 to 2013).

Potential needs truly investment, not empty declaration, to become the reality one day.
most major eurofighter partners are f-35 committed which will provide them their a2g needs.

Here we have reached a snag about what is comparable and what isn’t – the J-7G is quite a capable platform, I would say quite superior to anything the Iranians can produce.

so how is it superior to the Saeqeh and Azarakhsh?

I found that one, yes! It lists 13 MiG-29 crashes from 1994-2008; it’s a pity it doesn’t have data for the last few years, but still an excellent resource.

please help me with this

total crashes in IAF

MiG-29 = 13
Su-30MKI = 4
Mirage 2000 = 2

What if Mig sold the Iranians the designs for the Mig 1.42/44

Give the Iranians a boost over what they have. And give Mig some much needed cash.

do the iranians have the capability to reverse engineer the F-14?
seems like they’ve been able to do so with the cobra helicopter and the tiger.
