The biggest advantage for the F-15SE is :

    * Its American, and the US is invested heavily in South Korea’s defence
    * Its a platform (F-15K) that the ROKAF already uses
    * Its cheaper as a bid as per some reports
    * It allows the ROKAF interoperability between the radar developments for their F-15 and F-16 fleet, just as the SABR allows USAF to integrate radar modes developed for the JSF onto the F16, ROKAF can develop common modes for its F-15 and F-16 AESA
    * Some SE work and design would be in house

also Boeing has stated that it would help S.Korea on its KFX project…
don’t be surprised if we see a KFX based on the X-32!! 😮

I think the best they can do is to see if China will sell them the J-7G production line. Then they can call it the Qahaar or whatever…

why would they do that when they already produce a comparable aircraft on their own.

But is worth to use it as a dogfighter? IMO russians will need a new fighter, even simpler than the F35, something like the Rafale or the Typhoon, with some LO tweaks and a practical LO undercarriage.

    Rafale.. Typhoon.. simpler?

It seems like every day a bomb or two goes off. A few people killed here, a few people killed there.
Occasionally an allied soldier dies. In a few years time forces will be pulled out and then what?
Something has to be done globally, militarily, politically to solve this once and for all.
I fear we have just delayed a more major conflict or the middle east is destined to be at war internally for many, many more years.
Whatever happens it’s going to bite us at some point.

Europes fault for breaking up the Ottoman Empire. If the Turks had continued ruling, you’d have tolerance between Jews, Christians, and various Muslims..
the only cost is your young boys going to old hairy men.

the one thing Japan messed up on with its conquest of China is that they didn’t conquer more or hold on to it long enough.
Had they done so, the Chinese would’ve considered the Japanese rule as a new dynasty and accepted it as a mandate of heaven as they do with all the other foreign conquerors.
then they would’ve claimed all of Japan’s conquests as an inalienable part of China.

The Mongols, Manchus, and even Mao killed more people than the Japanese, but they’re worshiped in China.
The Soviets and Americans are the ones who saved China, but many Chinese hold in contempt these days.

naw, if there were no japanese, some one else would’ve conquered china.. it was meant to be taken back then.
most likely split between Russia which already had a presence before the Japanese, and the British..
and in the end you’d have a communist northern half and a capitalist southern half.

The SH deal never worked out because the Russians offered the RMAF a much better [from a Malaysian government perspective] off-set package [and also sent a Malaysian to space!]; it was a decision made by the country’s political leadership. Forced to accept the Su-30, the RMAF then decided on a customised version of the Su-30 because what was offered by the Russians did not fit the RMAFs operational requirements. The Russians were also unable to provide a simulator, a targeting pod and an MAWS. Within industry circles here, it is known that the Russians were not very happy as all the chosen Western stuff resulted in a much lower profit margin for them.

It can be argued that the RMAF should have gone down the cheaper route of not integrating major non-Russians items to its Su-30 – like what Indonesia and Vietnam did.

From Day One, the RMAF has been use to dealing with Western suppliers; they got a huge shock in the mid-1990’s when they discovered that the Russians operated in a slightly diffferent manner. Another problem the RMAF found was that the engines and other components on the Fulcrums did not have the same MTBF and TBO as Western types operated.

The contenders to replace the Fulcrums are the Typhoon, Rafale, Super Hornet and the Gripen. Cost is a very important factor here. SAAB has an advantage as it is able to offer Gripens on lease, together with the Ericsson Eriye, to fulfill on longstanding RMAF requirement for an AEW platform. It was reported some time ago that BAE Systems offered to provide some former RAF Typhoon Tranche 1s for next to nothing if the RMAF ordered about 8 newly built Trache 3s [this deal was neither confirmed by BAE Systems or the RMAF]. This deal was reportedy veteod by other Typhoon partner nations.

so no more Russian stuff for the RMAF eh? I’m sad.. that means no Pak-fa for you guys.
