Tens years ago I suspect Il-96 tankers would have been very attractive for the PLAAF had the Russians offered. But today there are about 50 Y-20s and only 30 Il-96s. A Y-20 tanker will likely be flying before long and in any case Russian production output is unlikely able to meet Chinese requirements. The same platform will be used for AWACS. That window has closed for the Il-96, which is why I inquired about a possible MPA role. If the Tu-214 has any potential in that regard the Russians should pitch the project while they can.

IL96M is digitally created from ground up with new manufacturing and materials.
Y-20 has only 12tons thrust engine. IL96M has 17.5 tons thrust engine with flight hours on wing approaching western engines with flight altitude of 13100m and higher Mach . it will have atleast three times longer range than Y-20 when use as special mission and tanker.
Y-20 is fatter than IL-78-90 tanker and highly likely very short range and slow speed.
Russia defence Industry develop big, complex, longer range.
Tu-160M2
Tu-214/Tu-204 special versions
IL-96M
BE-200 advance version
20 Ton UCAV.
PAKDA.
I am sure Mi-38 can lift heavier to higher altitude than any Chinese made helicopter.
Russia also developing new heavy universal Naval helicopter.

https://www.ainonline.com/aviation-news/defense/2018-05-21/new-russian-naval-helicopter-project-makes-progress
The primary role for the Minoga will be antisubmarine warfare, but unlike its predecessors, it will also be required to carry out other tasks. Of note, the Kamov Ka-52K Katran is already in flight tests, but its missions are limited to electronic reconnaissance and strike.
NPP Polet is reported to be heading the work on the Minoga’s mission equipment. Its parent organization Rostec says that the Russian navy is seeking “an intelligent command/control system.” A life-long after-sales support commitment from the industry is another navy requirement.
Again, show me the 800km range of the R-77, the 24,000km range of the Il-96M you claimed

Show me the carrier groups, a stealth bomber and an operational fifth generation fighter.
. I have never made any claim regarding Carrier groups. Carrier group speed is still stuck in 1960s. only Chinese need to concentrate on it.

I cannot repeat the same thing in every thread

Compared to 1980s the range of Surface to air, Cruise missiles have increased by 10 times. so why you think AAM range hasn’t increased by 10 times..
Sukhoi Superjet range double in VIP version. there is no reason IL96M special mission version cannot be more than doubled considering more efficient engines.

fighter are comfortable for 10 hour flights.

According to a bomber pilot these flights are becoming more routine for Russian pilots
China has shown zero ability for continuous long range missions. So it is highly unlikely it can contribute to project where primary mission is long range and loitering.

Il-96 is massive overkill for the MPA role.
it weighs in at around 270t fully loaded.
To put that into context, it is 50 tons heavier than a B-52 bomber, and more than 3 times the weight of a Nimrod.
A twin engine, such as a Tu-204, Superjet, or an MC-21, or one of the new Russian twin transport aircraft in the pipeline makes better economic sense.

.

To put into context. J-7►J-10►J-20 size are increasing at rate of 100%. now imagine the size of 6G fighter with its big sensors, long range, long missiles.
only MPA that has flexibility of parked at distance with big sensors, endurance will be effective.

Would you do us a favour and stop posting BS until the Il96M reaches indeed a range of 24k km, the R-77 reaches 800km, until the RuN has ist next generation carrier fleet, the PAK-DA operational and maybe even the Su-57 in comparable numbers, that would justify to call it operational?

Otherwise the amount of BS you post is barely readable … I’m really not sure, what you smoke or consume nor why such an amount of deliberately posted false information, fake and BS is allowed here, in nearly each and every other Forum it would be called trolling.

you are posting information about paper plana aka C919. it hasn’t demonstrated even 5000km range let alone special modification for long range missions like 10k+ missions.
my replies are based on taking account solid engineering skills with demonstrated competencies.

8000km range Sukhoi business Jet.

10,500km range with 2010 Electronics. newer lighter avionics, electricals will further increase the range with newer engines. 15K range is for Tu-214 class.

you can see there is no potential for cooperation in special mission aircraft. C929 is experimental project at this point. whose technology may well be applied to IL96M first.

What are the chances of a Il-96 based MPA. MC-21 as an MPA might not offer sufficient range for countries without forward bases. I would estimate it’s combat radius to be 1/3 that of the Tu-142. Where as the Il-96 based MPA would have comparable range. Not to mention 4 engines are always better over water.

IL96M engines are 10% more powerfull and more fuel efficient than IL96. Special mission Tu-204 about 10.5k range. IL96M with 24k range feasible. Faster training with two sets of crew. higher cruising speed.

Which besides the engines? … and also

1. Do you really think the PLAAF will intriduce the MS-21 when the C919 is ready?

when is C919 ready?
PLAAF still flying D30 powered aircraft. MS21 and C919 not same capability from start.Go to Irkut website. MS21 can fly directly Moscow-Valdivostok. And that not even the bigger 400 version.there is simply more flexibility in MS21 design. C919 is more comparable to ARJ21 type project.

2. Mr. Trump won’t last forever… thank god.:dev2:

There is enough momentum behind policies that it will continue.

Yes, it will be as economic and sales wise successful as the R-77 will reach a 800km range as you claimed

Boeing and Airbus need huge government support and multinational supply chain before they become economical viable some where 500 plane per model assuming high production rates.

. It will be built at best in a few examples as an aid to keep Ilyushin at work

is IL-476 build in few example. that is simultaneously developed transport, tanker and AWACS. so why you think IL-96M will be fewer.

… otherwise in mind of range, fuel consumption and efficiency

current IL96 can go upto 10,000km. engine acq cost will be cheap as it will be shared with mass produced transports and smaller short to medium haul jets. there will be no need oversize engine development over short term..

it will fall short behind any other modern airliner like the 777x, the 787, A350

. past is not indicator of future. the more Russia independent in aviation. it can apply non market approaches. low interest rates will not save.

and soon the CR929 … but if you think your criteria are the right ones, you must be correct even if noone agrees with you.

CR929 is not soon. even CR919 is a decade away before it can even make first 50 planes. that assuming US does not sanction it and Chinese run out of money.
your pretty much clueless about aviation projects and certainly don’t know anything about advancement in various technologies otherwise you wont bring R-77 example.

Pardon if you feel offended, but JSR JSR’s poats are rarely coreect. So why should a dated and never successful design be better than a brand new one basen on latesttechnologies?
to develop the Il-96 is nothing but a waste … it will never be more successful in mind of the lastest Western airliners and only for a handful of special mission birxs fur Russia?

IL96M is digitally created from ground up with latest avionics and will be in production for long time. its flying speed and altitude will not be any different than airline built with composite materials with far lower acquisition cost and much less engineering resources needed in modification. your criteria of success measurement is simply wrong. and I don’t want to teach the right criteria.

Could work. They could also build a four engine version of CR929, like Airbus A330 and A340.

CR929 has a lot of potential come to think of it, as tanker, AWACS, MPA, etc. If it is the only joint project to come to fruition it would bring highly significant capabilities.

CR929 does not have any potential developing in current form.

new version of IL96 . it can be special mission or simple freight transport. but no AWACS or Tanker.

http://www.ilyushin.org/press/news/ev7187/

Aircraft on 100% consists of Russian components, that eliminates the risks of the international political situation.

In addition, IL-96-400 m is embedded in the investment project on the establishment of a unified service center of the KLA in the Moscow aviation site.
-What aircraft will be created on its basis?

-Il-96-400 m-this is an interesting and promising program that can find its development as a passenger, special and in freight transport.

I was speaking about the Type 30 engine – the final engine type for the Su-57. I don’t think it is near ready for production yet. The engine you are speaking off is still an advanced derivative of the 1970s AL-31F. It’s closest equivalent is probably the General Electric F110-GE-132, as fitted to the F-16E.

it seems you have no understanding of engine technology. Su-35 neither look fatter nor it has worse performance than original Su-27. it is true innovation in engine technology. just adding TVC to western fighter will add 5 tons of weight. just look at Su-35 ferry range with mere two fuel tanks.

you look at Motor Sich that I posted in another thread. they have like 10,000 people engaged in exporting engines worth $300m. both those figures will be going to down each year.

A spokesman for Motor Sich said 35 percent of the company’s $450 million in sales last year went to China, making the country the company’s biggest destination for its aircraft engines. No sales went to Russia, the spokesman said. Six years ago, by contrast, one-third of the company’s $1.1 billion in total sales went to Russia.
Instead of wasting money on Tu-160, they should put that into PAK DA.

Russia can afford TU-160M2, PAKDA, 6G fighter, UCAV all at same time. you can see this from working IL-96M and C929 projects simultaneously. this approach of old and new development.
