Classic sound of the 80s: Corinne Drewery is always great but in a leather catsuit…here in Brixton 2001 is a cover better than the original… Am I the same girl-Swing Out Sister
Brave enough or stupid enough?! 😀
OK… Just for the hell of it! Here’s a couple of minutes of me playing along to Jack Of Speed by Steely Dan. This was recorded a good few months ago when I was quite rusty and wasn’t practicing much so it’s a bit rubbish really! I turned all the low end on the track I was playing along to off, so all the bass you hear is actually from my G&L.
I never realised I look at the bass so little when I’m playing! 😀

Paul, anyone who is brave enough to put themselves out there (and enjoying himself!) is doing the business…
Steely Dan were too much of a studio band for some but I really appreciate their craft…one of their best is…Haitian Divorce…and as you’d expect from Donald Fagen and Walter Becker great lyrics:
“It changed, it grew, and everybody knew
Semi-mojo
Whos this kinky so-and-so?
Papa go
Oh – no hesitation
No tears and no hearts breakin
No remorse
Oh – congratulations
This is your haitian divorce

From teh album Pretzel Logic and apparently written for a lecturer’s wife Donald Fagen had a crush on (…they asked her years later and she never called him!)..Rikki don’t lose that number

Gregory Isaccs – Night Nurse. This is one of my all time favourite tracks and I was lucky enough to mix this band a few years ago. I had a 6 foot beaming smile on my face for about a week afterwards. Awesome!

Paul
Great reminder and great memories…can’t believe you mixed his band!
One of my all time favourites..Dennis Brown with Prince Mohammed..Money in my Pocket but this came out on 12″ and was quite a very different version to the 7″ that charted in the UK..
“Silver and Gold will vanish away but Natty Dread is here to stay!..”

Steve James..lost touch with you 20 years ago..but can I have my 12″ back!

The Pretenders were a great band playing real music with one of their best being: Back On The Chain Gang…still does it for me

Aah..Kid…takes me back

Another cover better than the original…Thin Line Between Love and Hate..Chrissie Hynde was the music journalist who thought she could do a better job and went and did it! “Are you hungaaray?..”What a voice on this song!

Mmmmmm,nice.Thanks for the reminder.
No problemo Barry…how about a song from Rod the Mod…when he was actually making good records and enjoying himeself….great song really suits his voice and an instance where the original (by Maxine Brown) was bettered!…Oh No Not My Baby..play it loud!

An upbeat remake of You Are in my System by Robert Palmer… this is the 1992 version with a funky bass line…great for running!

A great live version of You Are in My System..just the first few seconds show how much he enjoyed this one…this older version (1986) does not have the driving bass line that makes the 1992 version so good.

One of Robert Palmer’s best…lyrics are outstanding….
There’s no profit in deceit
Honest men know that
Revenge does not taste sweet
and how can someone come up with…
Hey, and every man’s the same
He wants the sunshine in his name… a sad loss when he died in 2003..
