very good mate, thanks I’ve saved them.
I haven’t been to Macedonia for long time.
    Where are you from?
I’m from Strumica, live in Australia.

nice pics, is that a hum-vee above?

in regards to the special forces, who does the training, is it with NATO or is it independant?

    thanks.

The cost item is kind of questionable. You take out the pilot and replace him/her with a lot of computers, software, expensive electronics and comm gear.

yes, I know, however it is a cost of a human life which theoreticaly is priceless.

If the plane is distroyed the same pilot can controll another plane from a safe distance, I guess.

Another thing is, the above adavantages or disadvantages are simply only my opinion and not necessarily right or wrong, was realy looking to see what other people see as adavantages or disadvantages in such systems IF that’s where we are heading.
It may never happen I know, but if it does, what you guys think…

There are no real unmanned ‘fighter planes’ out there All of them are in reality strike aircraft which will definately need manned fighter planes to cover them

Well not now, I understand that, but the prediction is that the next generation might be same goes for next generation tanks.
They are suggesting that a lot of the future weapon systems would be unmanned, remotely controlled etc.

Regardless if there are or not, or if ever will be such planes, I was just curious to see what people here think of them regarding advantage and disadvantage over conventional/manned ones.

    Regards

It’s for 10th annervesary of operation “Storm”. It will fly over Knin 05.08.2005. with all other aircraft of HRZ.

I’ve been to Knin, I think about 22-24 years ago:)
My father has been before that (radna akcija)

First off, I’m not expressing any opinion here, but I was talking to an elderly chap some while back who was a designer for a couple of the now defunct UK aircraft companies back in the 50’s and 60’s. He was very critical of the Phantoms aerodynamics, saying that it was basically a clumsy and badly designed aircraft that was knocked and tweaked into shape. He cited the drastic anhedral tail and the strange wingtips among many other details that were required to make it acceptable. Whether this be true or not I am not qualified to judge but this man was involved in projects like the DH Sea Venom and Sea Vixen and the Hunter so I guess he must know something about aerodynamics.

I’m not sure about Phantom’s aerodynamics in detail, but personaly I believe is(was) an awesome machine, look @ the whole concept, it has huge wing area, could cary tons of stuff and still being awesomly fast even by todays standards.
In fact I personaly believe in its time it is comparable to todays fighters like F-15 or sukhoi 27 series aircraft.
in fact I think if someone was crazy enough to upgrade a phantom to today standards (avionics, weapons etc) it would give a bit of headache to some aircraft currently in service in the world.

Other aircraft have exhibited the same philosphy: the SR-71 and it’s inward canted horizontal tails…the F-104 with it’s exremely short wings and low, long horizontal tail….etc.

good day mate, just an observation, reffering to above, isn’t it supposed to be vertical tail rather then horizontal?

The way I see it the SR-71 doesn’t have horizontal tail, as it has sort of a delta type wing, and has two vertical tail surfaces which are tilted inwards.
as for the F-104 the horizontal tail sits on top of vertical tail so I believe that you are reffering to the actual vertical tail?

well Gary it is possible that you are right, but somehow I think that hellos be a better choice, as it probably doesn’t matter faster or slower, the potential conflict area (the mountains near the border) would be within 10’s of km’s from where they would be stationed I guess (Skopje?), so they’ll be there in minutes.
Again it is a very small country and it is very easy to cover it with only a handfull of aircraft or hellies. I suppose that might be a reason for getting rid of the su-25’s.
Personaly I like the su-25, and I was very impressed when they originally aquired them.

Cool thread, and I love the pictures.

I was looking at some stuff on the J-22 the other day. I think it’s a pretty cool airplane.

There’s a cool video clip of a J-22 racing some type of car and a motorcyle somehwere, though I can’t remember where I found it. The jet wins in the long run of course.

Well I’d be definitely interested in that video if someone can please provide a link, I’d be very gratefull.

    best regards

some very nice photos you have there mate, I like the J-22 Orao 2seater.
Any idea where to find some 3-view drawings for it, also a 3 view for the G-4 Supergaleb?
Want to build models, there’s not any kits available in Australia to my knowledge, so maybe I can scratch build an orao, as for the G-4 might be able to convert a british HAWK:)

    thanks.

In actual fact, the reason for Macedonia disposing of the Sukhoi Su-25s is simple: they are not the best aircraft for their mission. The US has actually been seeking to arrange for Mil Mi-24s to be transferred to Macedonia, since they are far better suited to the job!

That’s what I was thinking, that helicopters are more useful than jet aircraft in Macedonia, as it is realy a very small country, perhaps about 200kms across. There’s fair bit of mountains etc so helis would be natural choice.
perhaps jets a bit of a overkill for A2G.
even the mi-24’s they have, might be a bit much, perhaps smaller gunship-helicopters might be more usefull and economical.

    hey mate, chill out!

perhaps you need to read a little beetween the lines:)

the above is not a tribute or complement to US, it is a statement to present them as bullies, please read again.
what I mean is, they’ll do whatever they like untill such time someone says: that is enough. If such a time ever comes.
Until such time, well we’ll see of more of just the same, sticking their noses into everyone’s business.

My vote is for the most simple “vanilla” fighter of them all,the F-5

Looks like I have to agree with that:)

my vote goes to the F-5 series too.
