I love the look of the jas-39 Gripen, it is awesome, in fact I bought 4 plastic kits of it (two and single seatter).

regarding contender for the title, it didn’t actualy asked for contenders.

it asked if we agree if the F-15c eagle is todays best fighter aircraft and if we do why?

My argument as to why it is, is because it has the combat record to prove that.

If I thought it wasn’t, and the Grippen was, I’d say: no I don’t agree ’cause I think the Grippen is:)

Well, let me explain something, in case someone’s wandering what am I on about:

Personaly I love Mig aircraft (and SU- series too), and I would like to believe that they are the best fighter aircraft on earth, because I like their look etc, also when I was a kid I lived in country that used them (mig-21, 29 later) I’ve seen mig-21 @ local airshow, doing a roll about 100 metres from the ground, doing a hughe loop, starting from metres of the ground, topping @ out of sight high, and coming out of it @ excatly the same spot where started, I just loved it.
Anyhow, later when the mig-29 come on the scene and all of the aircraft magazines and reports were saying that the mig-29 is the best fighter aircraft in the world, including the western magazines, the reports were saying that mig-29 was better than f-16 and f-15 and as a matter of fact that the west didn’t actualy have an equivalent to the mig, geez I loved that fact it made me very happy:) I just loved the mig-29 and as a bonus it happened to be the best fighter aircraft in the world, how about that.
In a way to this day in my mind it is the best fighter aircraft in the world.

However, looking @ the facts and records, when NATO attacked Yugoslavia (I think) there were 5 mig-29’s that took of to intercept the NATO aircraft, incidently f-15c.
All migs were hit and 4 of them (I think?) got shot down, f-15c loses = 0.
That’s what I mean that f-15c is the best and there’s a record to prove it.
Now we can argue the fact, (understandably so) that the migs were grossly dissadvantaged: NATO had full AWACS support etc, NATO knew excatly where the field was, how many they have, in what condition they were in, how maintained they were, how often they were/been used for training missions etc. NATO pilots are well trained, with well maintained aircraft and equipment etc, also hughe numbers.
As far the yugoslav migs are concerned, they were just about useless, with their pilots not doing enough training, planes not being maintained, due to luck of spares/funds etc. The migs were just taking off and still climbing when shot down, the ones that stood chance to engage and fire discovered that their equipment failed(one of the lifes unpleasant surprises), so basicaly didn’t stand any chance.
So @ the end of the day, regardless of the circumpstances, the -15c proved the best fighter.
I mean I/we can asked the question: what if….???…, or if’s and buts, but it doesn’t matter, what matters is the resault.
I still think under all conditions being equall the mig is the best fighter, but the fact is: I just wanted to believe that.
Even to this day you’ll find websites and encyclopedias that still claim that the mig-29 outperforms the F-15 and F-16 type of aircraft, although I can’t find any combat record to prove that.
Same goes for all the other new aircraft: f22, jas39, rafale, f35, eurofighter etc, they are all the best, they were designed to be, they have the specs and the equipment to be etc, but we don’t know yet if they are, we believe they are, in combat most likely some of them will be, on the other hand some aircraft that someone thinks maybe the best, may get shot down like flies, but untill (if) that happens, we don’t know for sure which is the best, what we do know right here right now is: the f-15c is the (proven)best fighter today:)
this is strictly my personal opininon, I live in a country that doesn’t use neither the mig or f-15c, but uses the “ugly” f-18 hornet, bummer!

“I think if the conflict was serious enough Rafale, Typhoon and Raptor could be fully upto standard within a matter of months if not weeks.”

Very well, I fully agree, but I was thinking as for “today”, like right now:)

And even if the Rafale, Typhoon and Raptor were to be involved “today” we still do not know if they are: the best fighter aircraft Today, although of course we believe they are or (justifiably so) expecting them to be, they were designed to be.
What I’m saying is in the case of the F-15c we know that it is, as we have seen it in combat and always come out a winner. (I know there were always circumpstances, but still win is a win.)

    F-15C Eagle: Today’s best Fighter.

    ——————————————————————————–

    Hi all!

    Do you agree? why?

    Thanks
    ______________________________________________

Well, I kind of agree, while there’s a lot of new very capable planes out there about to enter service etc, the title (F-15C Eagle: Today’s best Fighter) says it all: Today?!
as in now today, and F-15c is fully operational and proven today, has been used in Combat and fully proven.
The F-22 and Eurofighter and Rafale etc are awesome machines, but we are talking today, although there are limted number of these aircraft in service already today, they are not in full operation.
What I mean is, if there was some conflict in the world “today” if western aircraft were to be involved there would be the F-15c on the scene as the best fighter aircraft, together with say F-18,F-16 etc. it wont be the F-22 or Eurofighter or Rafale?
    Or maybe I’m mistaken?!

By the way, I love most of the Russian aircraft too, and although I believe some of the Sukhoi series (27/30) are perhaps more capable than the F-15c, we haven’t realy seen or heard of the capabilities or performance in combat, so again I’d say that I agree with the title: F-15C Eagle: Today’s best Fighter.
Tomorrows best fighter? well that’s another story, perhaps the F-22?!:)

how about the f5 as mig?
    and mig-28???
and how about the f-14 un close dogfight with the wings fully swept?
Still the movie is Top-Fun, I must have watched it over 20 times:)
I find the flight of the intruder much more realistic, I must have watched that one more than 25 times and still keep watching it.
    Just love planes:)

ok, so what is it with the one (mig21 pfm) in the vietnamize museum with 13 kill marks on it?

ok, sorry I can’t be stuffed looking, but quickly found this (google):

    http://www.acepilots.com/vietnam/viet_aces.html
there’s few mig17 in table, but mostly mig21.

anyhow regardless of mig 17 being more maneuvreable or whatever, my response was towards the statement above: “mig 21 never wins”.
I was trying to say that it has won on quite few ocassions and against more superior and more expensive aircraft.
    that’s all.

    regards all.

I’d say it also depends who is flying it.

as for “MIG-21s NEVER win!”, perhaps we need to check some of the north vietnamise aces who were flying it more than 30 years ago.

MIG 21 had wins over much better, more sophisticated and much more expensive aircraft: f-4 phantom II.

So it did have few “wins”.

Sometimes a good pilot can make all the difference, even when flying “inferior” aircraft.

As for the above scenario again, one on one is hard to tell, again who’s the better pilot? who’s feeling lucky?!

if you are looking for a kit in 1/72 scale, I bought few of them from:
    http://www.nkrmodels.com.au

they are made by CONDOR and are not same quality as fujimi or revell etc, but are quite ok.

    Mig-29 9/13 $9

that is australian dollars, he does mail order worldwide, and he’s very quick.
    he also has: Mig-21-93 $8

    good luck:)

    F-20A???
is that as in F-20 Tigershark? The single engine version of Northrop F-5??? I’m not sure of any other F20, if that’s what you are talking about, I don’t know, F20 is a very lightweight aircraft, perhaps not aircraft that would be used against the MIG-29, most likely would have been F-16 or something in that class.

Could you please explain which F20 we are talking about?

    best regards.

I’ve bought the same kit, (I’m in Australia-Melbourne), it costs $23au, it is a pretty decent kit, by the look of it.
I actualy went to buy the new Revell mig21-f13, but it was sold out, so I bought this instead and an old ESCI – f4 Phantom:)
