Don Healy
Rob,
Don Healy is indeed mentioned in “GL-FP”, though not linked to any particular Spitfire – I seem to remember that the author rarely mentions the marks of Spitfires he is writing about. (Hey, the old grey cells are functioning then 🙂 ).
DH was also mentioned in the write up about MT719 in the large format all colour book photo essay book on restored Spits that came out a few years ago, was it called “Spitfire a Living Legend” by Tony Holmes (and someone else) – Oh heck, grey cells failing again 🙁 .
And was MT719 the Spit that was marked up as one of GL’s aircraft at Duxford a few years ago – though I think that was alater mark. (No sorry, grey cells have downed tools and walked…. 😡 ).
Anyway, perhaps we’re getting a bit off thread here?
Cheers
Paul
Badges of Rank
I was going to place my tongue firmly in my cheek and suggest it might be an “Ability to waffle and spout bullsh*t Indicator” 😀
But, as with RLangham above, then I spotted that I too seem to have been promoted after only a couple of months – so I guess it’s more to do with length of service and/or number of posts 🙂

Memory failure
Thanks Rob,
The old grey cells seem to be going on strike more frequently these days – either I have too many books on the shelf to remember their titles  or its an age thing…. 😮

They Don’t name ’em like that any more…
I know there were defined rules for assigning names, but fancy calling a bomber a FAWN – wouldn’t that be more suited to a nimble, twitchy, fighter than a bomber…..

Jimmy Nutti and Ginger Lacey
Hi,
Jimmy Nutti is mentioned in Ginger Lacey’s biography, Ginger’s squadron (sorry, can’t remember which, it’s a while since I last read the book) found him orphaned in the far east and took care of him.
The old paperback copy I have includes a B&W photograph of the lad with some of the squadron members.

Are there any mature adults in here?
Guys and Girls,
I joined the forum a month or two back, and thought I’d joined a fairly mature group of individuals, who shared a common interest. I’ve enjoyed most of what I’ve seen to date, but this thread is becoming repetetive and painfully boring now.
As with any group of people, be they family, friends, work colleagues, there will always be occassions when people don’t see eye to eye – everyone has their own view, and isn’t that what makes life (both real world and on these forums) so much richer?
What I see here is an ongoing childlike squabble, I don’t know the back ground, and I don’t really care, as others have said already, recent events show that life is all too short for harbouring ill feelings over ongoing petty squabbles. Get a grip on the priorities!
As others have said, for heavens sake step outside the forum/thread, take your bickering elsewhere (PMs? or meet up somewhere and beat one another senseless, I (and I’m sure many others)don’t really care). But I am sur ethe vast majority would like you to sort it out out of sight of the rest of us who aren’t directly involved, and who want to get back to talking about historic aviation.
Leave the forum for those mature individuals who can generally rub along together OKay, accepting that the occasional difference of opinion is all part of life’s rich tapestry.
GROW UP and MOVE ON!!!!!

Sidelipping her like a Tiger Moth
According to the BBC website:
I don’t want to be near any commercial plane that makes an approach at 10mph!!!
Unless it’s got rotors perhaps 😀
We saw Discovery ont he day they rolled her out of the VAB back in April. Somehow this makes it Feel like she’s “our” own shuttle.
Go Discovery!

Forgotten Bombers of the RAF
On my bookshelf at home I have a hardback copy of the above book – it covers (from memory) Stirling, Halifax(?), Hampden, Whitley, Botha, Blenheim, Wellington, Battle(?) and possibly others.
Sorry, can’t remember author or publisher offhand.
I picked it up at a “remainder” outlet here in UK a few years ago and it was only about a year or two after first imprint. While it is not an in depth look at any of the aircraft it covers it gives a good summary on each.
Seeing that it is a good “general” book on the topic, and was still remaindered very early, I hope that your proposed more specialised “single-plane in depth” books do better 🙁 .

Remembering Capt Bernard Short & Arthur Bird
Just to Bump this back up the list.
As Kev 35 says, I will be laying some flowers for Arthur Bird in Edenbridge on Weds at 12:30 at same time as Kev and the group at Manchester remember Bernard Short.
Any other forumites in the Edenbridge area are welcome to join me, please PM to arrange etc.

Was it necessary?
About as necessary as the events in the five years leading up to it perhaps? :diablo:
As has been said on other threads (Historic I think), if the two bombs had not been used how many lives would have been lost on both sides once an invasion of Japan taken place?
I’m not saying I support it’s use, but merely that it was probably a case of choosing the lesser of two evils 🙁

Low RAF VC10 at White Waltham(?)
A VC10 made a very low/slow pass during an airshow (or the pre-show press day) at White Waltham (IIRC), and a series of photos were published in at least one Aviation Mag at the time (I think it was a few years before our beloved host Magazine was on the scene). I think it was well below 50 feet, possibly even down to 25 feet or less.
Somewhere I have the back issue of said mag, and will try to dig out and scan the images.
Does anyone else recall the incident – was anyone on the forum there?

Are there any “other” mags available?
I didn’t know any “other” magazines were available 😉
