    …Yes, I was getting a little confused…Is/was LA 544 a spurious code ?

…Well that looks more like it ! .. Thanks Mark12. Is LA 464 being restored to flight ?…I had read about the blades being quite problematic on these late mark birds due to age and shrinking of the propeller roots ??

…Perish the thought Mark12….I really do love the way that all these far flung dispersed parts are able to be kept track of. Once again it’s a credit to people like yourself to be able to follow the trail, and weave a thread through this whole amazing journey of parts supply and restoration.

….I just don’t think many other people would bother with this collating of disparate airframe parts UNLESS it involved a Spitfire…..Very cool

Hi All .. Thanks Mark 12 for the beautiful set of pics. I went through that fascinating thread on WIX and thought how neat the exchange of tailplanes from RM 694 for use on EN 224 was of great benefit to all, with PeterA providing the Mk XIV unit….

.. If not too rude a question, which a/c or wreck provided the Mk XIV tailplane ? Cheers

Please excuse me for any finger pointing, as it wasn’t the intention. I must admit, there would have to be a valid reason for the fillet being offered. It’s a shame that the current owner (or Jeet Mahal for that matter) have to see this item come to light, when realistically it still belongs to them, and would probably appreciate having the item returned.

Yes Jagan .. It certainly looks like an “inside” job emanating from Kharagpore….but it still doesn’t explain how the tailplane fillet fairing ended up with SpitfireSpares..

…Even if the fillet fairing stayed with the fuselage, it in itself has been “nicked”, to be able to come to the market 25 years later !!

…Just for the sake of completeness to the whole sorry tale, has the physical point of theft been properly ascertained ?. Who would one report the theft to ?…the Indian Authorities or their British counterparts. I’m sure this would have a huge bearing on the retrieval of the stolen item, and would clear some hurdles for its potential recovery ??

…I hope I’m not being too naive (or at least overly optimistic)….. What are the chances an unscrupulous so-and-so on sells something knowingly not theirs to a totally innocent third party ?. The third party eventually becomes aware of these misdeeds, but the money is gone, the “new” owner now has a moral issue, the head is buried in the sand, and from here it’s a game of cat and mouse ( possibly with a fair sprinkling of tact and diplomacy) to right the wrongs. This must have surely happened in the past, and is bound to occur in the future….

    ….What a mess if that’s in fact the case here….Caveat Emptor !!

…..I have a theory .. Might’ve Gary Cooper been riding around on his elephant in the back blocks of Kharagpore, and spotted this lovely piece for his Mk XIV in the University shed ? LOL !!!

…What has me utterly perplexed, is/was the need for a Mk X1V / XV111 tail group for any Australian restoration…this style of empennage just simply could not suit anything under restoration in Australia ?

…. There is but one Mk X1V, and apparently the vestigial remains of the smashed Mk XV111 recovered from Nth America only recently to focus all eyes on … just a bit obvious I would’ve thought !

Hi All .. I hope I’m not stirring the pot too much, but could SpitfireSpares (or their supplier) explain how they may have (inadvertantly) come by the tail fillet fairing for this a/c ?

…..It’s advertised on their website as coming from TP 367 (HS 669), along with a mod plate for the Mk XV111.
