They’re talking about upgrading the G-4 Super Galebs so the Yak-130 won’t be needed. The remaining Montenegrin G-4s have also recently been transferred to Serbian-AF with the view of having them overhauled and upgraded.

On the topic of the used F-16s, I think they want new built aircraft but it’s not completely out of the question.

Wow….they’re saying they might have killed the “Emir” Doku Umarov himself as well as the chief instructor of suicide bombers Amir Khamzat.

    The operation is ongoing.

The airforce was apparently used in the North Caucasus to attack a terrorist camp, but no details have been published….I’m guessing helicopters were used.

It seems to me the Russian planners have equipped many more different aircraft to carry out Wild Weasel missions than the West; does this seem correct?

Back in the cold war, not these days AFAIK

MiG-29Ks since its the only advanced new built MiG-29 being produced with 2 solid customers.. MiG-35 = too risky for the time being.[/b]

In case you haven’t noticed, the scaled down Mig-35 is essentially the land based version of the Mig-29K. The radar is the only major difference.

    No, Gripen is.
And the American Engine is a non issue. whats the likelihood of Serbia getting into major defense issues with the US or western Europe again? very unlikely.
its done, a new gov’t is here. its no longer 1999.

Gripen is out of contention for the time being as they decided not to take part in the tender that was being put together last year.

The government is a shaky coalition which includes Milosevic’s ex-party that was cobbled together in the American embassy. It’s deeply unpopular and not exactly very stable. The West is having trouble financing it’s proteges over there. To avoid going bankrupt, the government had to reverse their previous rhetoric and go and beg money from China and Russia

Does anyone have some more info or photos of this one ??? Looks like an EW- or ELINT-version of the Tu-204 ?!

    Deino

Apparently this the Tu-204R (izd. 411), an ‘electronic intelligence’ version which is to replace the Il-20M. It’s considered an important project so not much public info is available on it.

-Isn’t the S-300V3 the Antey-2500 that was once offered for export?

    It’s still offered for export.

-Is a tracked version of the S-400 under consideration to replace the army’s S-300V batteries?

    They’re talking about S-300V4 in 2011.

Al Jazeera is reporting the same

    11:11am
Mustafa Abdul Jalil, the head of the Libyan Interim Council, tells Al Jazeera that residential areas in Benghazi are under attack by artillery and tanks. He also said that the plane shot down belongs to the rebels.

    Interesting report…

Russia is developing a new type of submarine with a “closed cycle” engine. It will also have a supplementary diesel engine and be able to operate underwater for a period of several weeks without the need to surface.

It’s intended for coastal water operations

    Russian Source:

I don’t follow naval developments very closely so was wondering if this “closed cycle” engine is a Air-independent propulsion (AIP) system or something else?

Saudi interventionism should also be condemned.

The Saudi’s were given the go ahead but publicly will be told in a “stern voice” to not overdo it, but that’s about it.

The US 5th Fleet is based in Bahrain….they can’t afford to have a Iran friendly government there. But IMO they’re taking a gamble. The suppression might not work and the Bahrain monarchy falls anyway which would probably mean the fleet looking for a new home.

If you take the above in consideration and put 2 and 2 together you’ll see why the US doesn’t want to intervene in Libya

The west may not want to do it, but why not Russians and Chinese or are they only against western interventionism.

The French and the British will be paying a price for their tough talking if Gaddafi survives. There are reports that he will be nationalising ‘Total’s’ and BP’s assets in Libya in reprisal….guess which country(s) will be benefiting in such a scenario 😉

Would you be against an Arab backed intervention with Arab Ground troops mostly from Egypt and allied air cover.

    Just curious…

Would you be against an intervention in Bahrain to save the defenceless and unarmed protesters against the tyranical and brutal Saudi invasion forces

Bahrain unleashes forces on protesters’ camp

Gunfire was widely heard throughout the capital and at least five helicopters were circling scenes of clashes, amid widespread panic on the streets below

    YouTube removes Saudi attack video

    And one more thing…

I recommend that all armchair interventionists pick up a rifle and head to Benghazi and put their a.r.s.e where their mouth is

According to a ‘Helicopters of Russia’ spokesman, China is interested in the Mi-34S1. I’m guessing it’s for the civilian market though.

Are there any pics of the cockpit intrumentation of the “710” test bed?
I imagine i’ll look something like the Su-35S.. just that it got an weapon station(two crew) as well.

I think it’s just an engine test bed
