give it a rest, Lonevolk doesn’t know the difference between permafrost and sand. in Lonevolkistan, technology magically appears out of nowhere

Cheapness of production won’t be of much help if your reserves run out…and Saudi reserves are declining.

I know you’re not the sharpest tool in the shed, but do you mind explaining why Saudi Arabia isn’t the biggest oil producer?

(maybe we can open up a thread on this in the general discussion section)

Middle east oil isn’t enough for everybody. So extracting in the Arctic is virtually unavoidable in the next 10-20 years

More traffic along the Northern Sea Route

Russia’s Ministry of Transport believes cargo transport through NSR will increase from last year’s 1.8 million tons to 64 million tons by 2020….

and you haven’t followed technology in the last few years.
people are still buying Saudi, Kuwait, and other middle eastern oil even though their production is declining.

And yes Russia is a big burger in oil.. but most of that oil is not coming from the Arctic permafrost area, its coming from the sexy Urals. In case you didn’t know, areas like Tyumen, Bashkortostan, all those lovely Turkish areas.

The key word in my post was untapped reserves

    You won’t have a choice.

You haven’t been following the news the last few years

You don’t get it, do you? …..

Your uncle forgot to tell you that the official Saudi reserves are overestimated significantly. A lot has changed since the 1970’s.

The largest untapped reserves of oil and gas are in the Arctic

He appears to be talking about a ceramic thermal barrier coating on metallic blades which is nothing special these days – I’ve had a close look at a sectioned AL-31F and it certainly seemed like it had a TBC on the LPT NGVs.

They’re saying it’s a specific Russian developed tech.

    Possibly related…

..To reduce the RCS of an aircraft in the rear hemisphere measures need to be taken to reduce the RCS cavity of the exhaust nozzle of the engine, which has the largest radar return .

Therefore, during the production of new engines, effective application of radio absorbing coatings on the exhaust nozzle have to be undertaken.

The only material capable of withstanding both temperature ( up to 1200 ° C) and mechanical load characteristic for this part of the engine , is ceramics .

A multilayer ceramic coating has been developed. Melted dielectric and metal microparticles are sprayed on the engine components by using a high pressure semiconductor plasma arc discharge .

The main difficulty that had to be overcome – the creation of high adhesion between the relatively thick metal-ceramic layers and metal surface of the engine. As is well known , ceramics and basic metal aircraft structure have significantly different coefficients of thermal expansion. In addition, the temperature at which the coating has to retain its radiophysical properties, changes in a very broad range – from 600 to 1200 ° C.

Thus, it was necessary to develop materials , with dielectric and magnetic permeability which does not change in a wide temperature range. This problem is partially solved : the engines with ceramic radio absorbing coatings have been mounted on aircraft and tested in a variety of flight regimes….

When they say that the engine already satisfies airforce’s requirements…. except reduced radar visibility, is he talking about the frontal radar signature or the rear ?

My guess would be the rear
