This was also the first Spitfire I ever saw in the flesh , must have been in the early 60’s at Eastleigh in the pale blue overall scheme .
Many thanks from the other side of the planet to all those who make this thread so interesting , your efforts are much appreciated .
Some years ago I was trawling the Net , I think I was looking for information or pictures of DHC Chipmonks and I am sure I came up with a picture of one somewhere in North Africa and there on the edge of the same apron was the hulk of a Maryland in much the same condition as this one is described as being in .
Yes he is mentioned in Vol 9 , but not in my 1992 edition of Vol 1 .
Sorry, Yes, New Zealand.
That’s alright , I was fairly sure there wasn’t one on the West Island !
Are there two airworthy in the southern hemisphere ?
Give them a break , they have been too busy working on their Barracuda !
Very disappointed to read of this termination . Seems to be the work of civil servants educated beyond their intelligence . I would like to thank all the Bluebird team for their efforts to recreate a missing piece of history and for making it possible for us all to watch as it happend too . I will miss this thread , one of the best written on here .
Does anybody know the colour scheme of R7073 ? Please .
I seem to remember the A4s being towed up the main street in Auckland from the docks .
Many thanks from the other side of the planet for all the pictures and commentary of this historic site and the activities there .
The house in question is near Hitchin in Hertfordshire and is currently a Sue Ryder Home , but in the mid 1950’s was in use as a school .
No I do not think so , as it was taken earlier than that ,I believe the guy involved had family near where I lived in Hertfordshire and the picture was taken on a visit to them .
Thank you , that is interesting as the guy the photo was supplied by was said to be involved with Intelligence rather than flying . I think I was hoping for maybe a Spitfire PRXIX or Meteor PR9 , but an Anson will do .
Thank you from another side of the world , I have enjoyed 2014 here .
