The RAF had some Squadrons of B-29s in the 50s, they were called WASHINGTONS. Also I think the Aussies had some and there is one in the Duxford Museum.

I got in fairly early and had NO TROUBLE but I noticed that some poor sod’s were still trying to get in at 1430 and the display(flying) started much earlier. Somebodys head should roll. I found that the trouble was in getting out. TWO HOURS to get off the airfield. There were plenty of RAF personel to get the money and get you in but there seemed to be a distinct LACK of people to help you away. Beside that once again the EUROFARCE need not have turned up for all the hype given about it (AGAIN), I expected more that a 2min 30sec display from it.

Iwas there for an ATC camp in the 70s when they had Hercs. The RAF gliding ass were practising there all week for a big comp and a Chief Tech Dawson crashed in a new glider and was unfortunately killed.
We were the first on scene and as it was in a field next to the main back road aa the cars stopped to let the GHOOLS have a look. After that we adjourned to a lovely pub at the rear of the then new control tower and this pub was owned by BEN WARRIS of Jewel and Warris fame (does anyone remember this pub?? if so what was the name of it. The Sgts Mess wes extremely quiet that night.
I do remember the collection in the hangar at the far side of the field and also there were a few ANDOVERS in Cammy Paint there??

Getting off the Main subject a bit.
What I can’t understand is so many Allied and German servicemen died to liberate France from the Germans yet WHY do the French treat their erstwhile allies like dirt and yet now WELCOME the same nation that occupied them in 1940, all for a FEW BOB.

I watched that program with interest and I wondered London at least has some sort (not much) of preperations *BUT WHAT ABOUT* the rest of the country such as Birmingham,Liverpool or Manchester. If London could not cope there is “NO CHANCE” for the rest of us. If the Govt couldnt give a S*** for London only their own reputations, what about the rest of the country??? The EXPERTS might say one thing but from the prog it was obvious that the people on the ground doing the dirty work ie:rescue workers fiire, police and amb / hospital workers saw things in an entirely different (and true) light.

Nick Berg would have been killed without the excuse given.
NO I dont feel sorry for the IRAQI prisoners, given the chance they would do a lot worse/and have done to any POWs that fell into their hands.
