Im sure the guys name was Dick Nutt, (honestly!) He had the undercart rigged up so it retracted up into the roof space and im sure he had both engines and a fair chunk of fuselage and wing section too, would love to know what happened to it all!

Thanks for that info, well that is truly inspiring then!, if theyre spending that sort of maney and taking things to those lengths then perhaps one day we could see three Lancs where they truly belong!

So, just to settle my mind, the Brothers now have four overhauled engines, are these overhauled to a condition that would be acceptable for an airworthy aeroplane? ie could they be signed off as fit to fly?

    A-20

Whilst on the subject of A-20s, I met a bloke who had the remains of one in a sort of purpose built bungalow in Leicester somewhere, any ideas if its still extant?

As i now understand ,there are other areas of aircraft that produce levels of radition too, Balance tabs because of their construction, WHEN DO WE HAVE TO COMPLETELY WRAP THESE AIR FRAMES UP IN PROTECTIVE BUBBLES?

And i think we’re all in touch with reality enough to know that a bare metal finish isnt going to be practical in our climate, particularly given that Sally B spends much of the year outdoors, hence why a coatal command finish would serve well on two counts , practicality and a new face on the airshow scene. And i know there are those that will disagree, but that white finish looks so realistic once the exhaust stains and the weather have done their best!

    Radioactive issues

i know a lot of people who suffer from talking Bo**ocks and other strange side effects after working with these things!

I may be wrong, and trust me I rarely am!! , But I vaguely recall Sally B was re-painted last time for either nowt or labour only, so there are deals to be had, personally i think my idea of asking the MOD to help is always worth a go, If you dont ask you dont get, thats why im the only 19 stone ugly bloke in my village with a ‘hot’ wife!

In fact, heres a thought for the BBMF , Why dont you chaps all start chatting,A lanc and a B17 both in coastal command? That way perhaps the MOD might stump up something towards the cost of paint,if youre masking one up, mask two! The Govt think nothing of giving handouts to Islamic fanatics ,so surely something like recalling our military heritage would be easy to sanction?

Well i believe charity begins at home, and if a way of getting people to pay for taxi rides is acheivable then lets get it sorted! As for colour schemes, how fantastic would she look in coastal Command colours? now that would attract some attention and i guarantee you wouldnt hear her engines whilst taxiing past the crowd line for the noise of camers shutters!

    David.

Or, give the YAM team the ‘real’ nose that their project so richly deserved. If you want a walk through nose then why not reconstruct that from wood, metal, old coke bottles and egg boxes so thousands of feet and touchy feely and dare i say it, occasionally sticky fingers dont damage the real deal!

    Halifax Nose.

so you can see what im getting at then cant you? It really isnt cricket!. I can appreciate that if you accepted every Tom Dick and harrys request for partial assemblies youd very quickly run out of stock, but when you can clearly see what YAM were achieving then it should have been without question, especially if the question was raised that it would eventually go to Duxford if YAM folded.
