Not Halton, but Cosford for me (132 entry, 78-81)

We used to visit Halton a couple of times a year throughout the three year for route linings in London which meant that we could meet-up with the guys there who we originally met at Swinditz.

One thing’s for sure, the postman would still try and stuff it through your letterbox.

“WHILE YOU WERE OUT ………..We tried to deliver your intercontinental nuclear bomber but there was no one in so we’ve shoved it behind your bin”.

    Hi Folks,

Sorry to drag-up this thread again, but I just noticed something on eB*y which pricked my interest owing to this comment from Andy earlier in the thread:

If you look at the figure number one (1) on your report you will see it is thus: 1.

However, I think I am right in saying that wartime period typewriters did not have a figure 1. Instead a lower case “L” was used.

There’s a 1941 Dowding letter for sale on eB*y here and I note with interest that the date is typed with the figue 1 not the lower case “L”.

I’m pretty much convinced that my C/R (pics posted earlier in the thread) is a dud, simply because of this feature (a bit of research going on in the background tho!) However, there’s some connection to the source of my C/R and the letter currently for sale.

    Any thoughts?
