IT was a space RACE,race being the word, the us were trying to beat the Russians to the moon,sending a full rocket up with all the gubbins I’m sorry to say would have been too expensive.
The lives of astronauts were and always will be an unfortunate second to the missions at hand.Just as the explorers did looking for the new world lives will be lost.
