The Gas Turbine Research Establishment of Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) has undertaken development of Kaveri engine to meet the propulsion needs of LCA project. During Aero India 2005 number of manufacturers displayed engine technology. In order to expedite the Kaveri engine development, DRDO has explored the possibility of partnership with other leading manufacturers. Expressions of Interest have been sought from all reputed military engine manufacturers to assess the level of interest in such a proposal.
DRDO has reviewed and assessed that, in itβs current stage of maturity, significant risk reduction in the program may accrue through a partnership in engine development and production to meet production release goals of Kaveri by 2009.
This information was given by the Defence Minister Shri Pranab Mukherjee in a written reply to Shrimati N P Durga in Rajya Sabha today.

Looks like it π
Thanks George ji.
Sorry for bring it out so late. what is the range for the Su 30MKI radar? and what are its BVR capabilities.
Thanks for the info
I just have a question for all (well most of if not “all”) Indians here?
Well Most of us are Indians π
Do you guys get a better sleep at night when you say things (the way I see it, it is no less than bragging) on some internet forum?
The best Sleep you can imagine bro!! just knowing that their are people who care about the mother nation.
Frankly speaking, it is just tiring to listen to some of the guys (obviously I don’t want to call names for avoiding flames here) perticularly the way they put facts here. When I hear an Indian saying “India this, India that …”, I almost hear the guy saying “India is NOT this what you thought she is, India is NOT that … “
That is how you take it. Most of the things said on the forum are always backed by evidence.
All the euphoria over India-US pact simply reminds me the bragging Pakistanis used to do in 80s (to all Pakistanis – I request you to not reply to this as it is meant to drive a point to Indians. No slight of Pakistan intended here. Please ignore this part if you can. Thanks.) Afterall India-Pakistan equal-equal which you guys loath so much is not something pulled out of thin air or from someones rear. It is very much there as I see it on BR and here.
have you ever read http://www.pakistanidefence.com try that and then you will know the standard deference.
Is it really so difficult to refrain from gloom and doom type of behaviour? Is it that hard to keep heads cool and do the actual work without bragging/talking about it?
No one talks about gloom and doom. its just views and opinions out in the open.
Now who the fcuk I am to ask you all this and what makes me think so? I don’t post here much but I do read AFM regularly. Unfortunately due to time constraints I cannot be as active as you guys are but I take a daily dose of many things. This post is not meant to belittle what you are trying to do or say but drive certain points if you care to look at it from a different point of view.
Its good you read. some dont. you care to reply once in a while, most do. π
Just before leaving, I too am an Indian and not pretending anything. Even a single person agrees with me on this I will consider this post as a constructive use of my time.
Be proud bro. as the saying goes, “So main se ninyanve beimaan, fir bhi mera bharat mahan.” That one guy makes the difference. he will soon change the 99.
Thanks to allow me to rant and whine here.
It happens only in India???????
There was a movie using the F117. I think it was called Top Gun – Interceptor. I remeber a scene where the F117 falls out of a transport aircraft and it is started in tha fall. can some one help me remeber the movie? I saw it some 12yrs back.
F-16 all the way, puts me to sleep.
next would be f-35.
followed by super etenard.
F-15 is not boring, it gives me chills. but not more then mig 29, su 30MKI and F14
The take-off is tricky when it`s hot…but the horisontal flight is ok. I have no idea what engine setup the Indian Mi-8s have.
Press the engines used by MI-8 in India are Two Isotov TV2-117A engines, each developing 1500 shp. Although they are now being replaced by MI-17 the engines are as follows : Two 1900hp Isotov TV3-117M engines with contingency rating of 2300 shp in free turbine mode. Air intakes fitted with auto synchronization systems as well as FOD deflectors. APU present.
Hey Press but the MI-8 works pretty well for the Indian airforce. even in the hot desert. Is it that they made some modifications?
Including inflation i would guess around $37.5 to $40 for HAL manfactured MKI
Just a guess. what do you say Harry?
Maybe base them in Iraq
no flames intended
Hmmm, lemme tackle this; the IAF wants MRCA to have …. erm … “MR”? i.e. multi-role?
great analysis π
I second M29M2
1986 – dont remember which plane was just 5 yrs old. it was a prop. the one i remember is a A-319 New Delhi to Guwahati, India in 1990. Last was Austrian Viena Delhi. Again in an Airbus widebody dont remember the model
np, great pics anyways. hope you visit more shows and get us more pics.
Hitting ctrl alt del will cause all software to stop responding and the only thing allowed will be a shutdown or closure of some part of the aircraft :D. Wont recomend any, lol.
Thats a 2001 estimate, and its well known how big mouthed HAL is. IMHO that figure is a dream not reality, to prove me wrong build it, and i will come on my knees. till then i dont wana beleive $22.5m.
I would be interested to know th current estimates HAl gives and when you add 10% to it, then you can know how much they will make it in.
