Whats closer to srinagar?
Not regularly, They are based at Adampur. Go for special missions and training once a while.
Sorry BIO nothing more that I can post here. Just Pilot Pics lik ethe one i posted earlier. I am planning a trip to adampur soon. home to get some high res pics then.
A few more.
Awaiting comments
Baliga, a winch is heavy, i guess it was the helmet which saved the pilot.
i heard that pilots were wing commander and squadran leader so they might have rally tried every possible way to avoid the crash
Yes they did. After the fire they tried to extinguish it. After that failed, they cut of the engine but the fire persisted and they had to bail.
Well the pilot i spoke to said the accident reminded him of Hot Shots the movie, where the pilot ejects safely and then the rescue ops kills him.
No idea how they managed that. It did not struck me then to ask that. Dhruv will be good and the IAF is waiting for it. However its taking for ever.
Saub , I suppose you have to be careful before you post his pic or give more information , You could unintentionally get your buddy in trouble with the IAF auth.
HE must be really good to get into the 29 squad 🙂
OO you bet he is good, anyways the info i have provided is already available publicly. Check out the IAF Mig 29 saga i posted which might not be ;).
IJT completes “hot weather” trial runs
Bangalore, June 09: The Intermediate Jet Trainer (IJT) — HJT-36 – from the stables of Hindustan Aeronautics Limited has successfully completed the first phase of the “hot weather” trials at Nagpur recently, the company said today.
The two prototypes of the aircraft (PT-1 and PT-2) logged eight hours of flight in a span of one week, HAL said in a statement.
The combined 13 test sorties were carried out at high ambient temperatures as per the operational requirements, it said. Both aircraft were soaked in hot conditions in the open for about two-three hours before the flights, while a mobile telemetry system carried out the online monitoring of the flights.
During the trials, all the systems worked satisfactorily and the performance of the aircraft was as expected, the statement said.
The trials have given necessary inputs for aircraft’s performance as well as reliability of its systems under high temperature conditions. The trials also gave useful inputs for improving the comfort levels of the pilots under testing conditions, it said.
HAL Chairman Ashok K Baweja Baweja said one more milestone had been achieved towards certification and introduction of world-class trainer in 2008.
The IJT is slated for induction into the Indian Air Force (IAF) by early 2008. Its first flight took place on March 7, 2003 and the two prototypes have completed 277 flights. The IJT is now getting ready for flying displays at the Farnborough Airshow (UK) to be held next month.

Prithvi missile test fired
June 11, 2006 17:38 IST
Prithvi, India’s most sophisticated surface-to-surface missile, was test-fired from a range at Chandipur-on-sea near Balasore on Sunday.
Scientists of the Defence Research and Development Organisation, who conducted the test with army personnel at the Integrated Test Range, 15 km from Balasore, described it as a user trial.
DRDO sources said the missile, mounted on a mobile launcher, was fired at 1.40 pm.
“The user’s trial was conducted to further fine tune the missile delivery system,” a source said.
The trial was tracked by a sophisticated optical tracking telescope, different telemetry stations and a naval vessel positioned in the Bay of Bengal close to the point of impact. The missile was fired in bright, sunny weather.
Considered a world-class medium range missile, Prithvi has with a strike range of 150 km or more and has been inducted into the armed forces. The army had raised two specially trained missile groups to handle it.
The missile is part of the Integrated Guided Missile Development Programme. The other four missiles developed under this programme are Agni, Akash, Trishul and Nag.
The missile, with the latest onboard computers and an advanced inertial navigation system, can use both solid and liquid propellants. The army variant of the missile can cover 150 km in 300 seconds.
The first trial of Prithvi before its induction into the army, was conducted at Sriharikota in Andhra Pradesh on February 22, 1988.
The fulcrum all the way.
hey nice pictures so what rank does your buddy holds is mig 29 pilot ,where is he situated now ???
He’s a Flt Lt, Not yet fully ops. Based at Adampur.
Couple of Pics of my buddy i got my hands on.
thinking of giving him a visit. 😉
EADS proposes maritime variant of Airbus A319 with bomb bay doors for India
By Brendan Sobie in Singapore
Airbus, Boeing, IAI, Ilyushin and Lockheed Martin bid for reconnaissance aircraft deal
EADS plans to develop a new variant of the Airbus A319/A320 to compete with the Boeing P-8A Multi-mission Maritime Aircraft (MMA) on offer to India.
Industry sources say the Indian navy is evaluating a proposal, led by EADS Casa and based on the A319, for its eight-aircraft maritime reconnaissance requirement.
Other proposals received by India include an export variant of the US Navy’s P-8A, dubbed the P-8I, from Boeing; a new solution based on the Dassault Falcon 900 from Israel Aircraft Industries (IAI); an improved version of the Il-38 from Ilyushin, and a refurbished P-3 from Lockheed Martin.
EADS sources say the A319 proposal is similar to a maritime solution first proposed to Italy and Germany in 2003, which had a bomb-bay and missile hardpoints housed in canoe fairings. But for India, which wants an aircraft to detect and attack submarines, the bomb bay has been moved to the cargo bay and the missile hardpoints moved to the wings.
To further reduce non-recurring engineering costs, EADS Casa’s FITS mission system is being proposed for India instead of the tailor-made system offered to Italy and Germany.
“It is using part of the development for the Germans and Italians, but the concept has changed a bit. For the Germans and Italians it was a purpose-built aircraft. In the case of India, it’s a derivative aircraft,” says an EADS source.
Several other countries – including Australia, Canada and France – have expressed interest in the aircraft proposed to India and will likely be offered a similar solution based on an A320, because they require more range and endurance. However, few are expected to launch competitions for new anti-submarine warfare aircraft in the near future, the source adds.
EADS anticipates most P-3 operators will not begin to look for replacements for at least five and perhaps 10 or even 15 years. Consequently, it expects several maritime surveillance competitions will be held between 2010-20.
India asks MiG to send RFP for 126 fighters: Tyagi
VINAY SHUKLA, MOSCOW, JUNE 1 (PTI)
India has asked Russia’s MiG aircraft corporation to send a request for proposal (RFP) for the acquisition of 126 fighters, IAF chief S P Tyagi said here.
Tyagi, who watched a demonstration flight of the Mig-35 (Mig-29ovt) fighter at a Russian air force base near the capital told reporters that the demonstration was “brilliant”, but clarified that the IAF was looking for an aircraft “to win wars” and not for “impressive demonstrations”.
“Any aircraft is nothing but a ‘khokha’ (shell), but what matters is, what is inside it,” the Air Chief Marshal underscored.
He said that for the first time the factor of “life cycle cost or ownership cost” was being taken into account while acquiring a fighter.
“How to calculate the ownership cost was the problem and that’s why it has taken more time in taking a decision,” Tyagi said and added that the tender would be invited “very soon”.
According to earlier reports, Russia’s Mig-35 would be facing a tough challenge from the battle-proven US F-16 and F-18.
The air chief said that any decision would be taken after studying the merits of a fighter offered to India “at great depth”.
He also declared that all the 126 fighters for the IAF would be purchased from a “single vendor”.
The air chief is on a weeklong Russia visit, which he qualified as “military-diplomatic”, saying it was “fallout” of strategic political relations between the two nations.
He also held extensive talks with his Russian counterpart General Vladimir Mikhailov and visited Sukhoi and Mig aircraft corporations.
Tyagi discussed the opening of a joint training centre in India for regional countries acquiring Russian Sukhoi planes.
Local media reports here claimed India is to acquire flight simulators produced by aerospace equipment corporation for training the pilots of SU-30mki multirole fighters.
Responding to a question, Tyagi said that India is very much talking to Russia on the joint development and production of a fifth-generation fighter.
“There is a government agreement, and we are talking to them,” Tyagi said. He said that the Indian and Russian Air Forces were evaluating their requirements, specifics and vision of fifth generation fighter.
After completing talks, Tyagi left for Irkutsk where he would inspect 12 SU-30mki fighters, which India is swapping for older FKF and FMKF versions.
On the last leg of his visit he will interact with the officials of St. Petersburg-based engine and avionics designers and producers in his capacity as a “customer” of their product.
