It’s all to do with what the CAA will allow on a UK reg. As Yak11Fan says, no aerobatics in a UK registered 450hp conversion….G-IIIG was a standard 220hp version and also had CAA approval for ‘wing seats’
The rigs are approved and STC’d AFAIK…
Shame N54922 is being fitted with a cowling, always the best one IMHO, but a 8ugger to roll with only 2 ailerons……:D
(The man from Southend refusing to relinquish the engine without the money)
Sounds like a very sensible chap….
Buyer to Car salesman. ” I’d like to buy that Porsche 911 please”
Car salesman. “Certainly Sir, that’ll be £90,000”
Buyer. “Is it ok if I just take the car and let you have the money later?”
Salesman “Feck right off”:D
Watched it and thoroughly enjoyed it. Brought it home just how brave & courageous people really are in times of war. Must admit I became a bit emotional at one point, very rare for me
I think we can excuse the mistakes in the editors room, as I ‘m sure that most TV production people are not as pedantic as some of us. Yes they were mistakes, yes it annoys me, but we cant all be perfect.
EH
did anyone go and see the Nimrod II fly last weekend?
Yes, I did;)
At 10:00 this morning, a Harvard of undefinable colour flew across here, Bocking, heading NE.
10 mins later, my missus phoned me from her stables near Wethersfield to report the passing of the same plane heading north, she said it was a sort of buff colour with large black letters under the wings.
At 14:00 I was attending a site meeting at Haslingfield, a few miles north of DX, this was interrupted as a Spitfire in close formation with what looked to be the same Harvard flew over heading south towards DX, the Spit looked to be grey in colour. As we watched, the Spit did a very tight and steep turn
away to port and both a/c dissapeared below the trees.
Harvard G-DDMV from Kent on a photo shoot with Spitfire G-MKVB. The Harvard is still at Duxford in hangar 4
As I know both CFIs, I would recommend either, but if pushed to choose, would go to Andrewsfield. But then I have a license and hindsight is a great thing.. If I could do it all again, I would still go where i did for my PPL, if they were still there (Southend)
Blimey, that seems cheap…When Spitfires and the like go for close to or over £1 million…
How about a forum whip round, and then we can give it a decent colour scheme..
PS, I’ll fly it for you all 🙂
A recent advert in ‘Flight International’ from Loch Lomond Seaplanes was inviting suitably qualified pilots with DHC-2 Turbine Beaver type ratings and relevant floatplane experience (1000hrs) to apply for a job…
I couldnt help thinking that the chances of a UK pilot landing the job was pretty remote….
The Utterly Butterly Stearman team appeared at Flying Legends in 1999, so not so much of a revelation is it?
As Moggy says, it’s their train set; if you don’t like the line up, then don’t go..
Duxford good today, Spitfire Tr9, Yellow Harvard, Spitfire Mk Vb, Cosmic Wind and HAC Nimrod all out on the line.
zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
The CAA won’t allow paid passenger flights because the Vulcan will be (eventually) operated on a Permit to Fly. And you can’t fly in it in a display either (I doubt that Dr Robert would want hordes of anoraks asking…..), for the same reason that the B-17 et al doesnt carry pax during displays.
PS Is this the same ‘Dr Robert’ who fronted the Blow Monkeys in the 80s???
PPS Anyone up for getting Concorde airworthy again? (just for a few displays mind….)
😀
ISTR the Tiger Club has/had a CAA Exemption from the relevant ANO Article, Article 11 I think, bought in when the law changed sometime in the 70s/80s? There are several conditions and I believe one of those conditions is that the aircraft are series production built – which is why they are all Rollason Turbulents….
I think they are the only club offering single seat aircraft for hire
a number are now past their best
I’m not surprised then that the LAWM are losing theirs. The F-100 looks like nothing has been done to it since it arrived. At least it hasnt yet gone the way of the 2 Vampires they had once….
Jeez!!! Only a few days into 2007 and already we’re speculating about Legends.
Just turn up, enjoy and then go home amazed at what has turned up (or not, as the case may be):D
I heard ‘a rumour’ that the Lashenden Air Warfare Museum at Headcorn are to lose both their F-100F, and the Mystere IV, something to do with the Mutual Assistance Programme that funded them in the first place. The F-100F is apparently going back to a museum in the States and the Mystere is to be scrapped.
Its a shame, because the F-100F is (I think) the only one preserved in the UK and is quite a rare beast over here. I have very fond memories of walking around Sculthorpe in 1975 or 76 and seeing them all parked there.
Flown by John Crewdson I believe, and from his company, Helicopter Hire at Southend.
