Melvyn, sorry, but in between your first and second posts, I’d decided to delete mine to protect the innocent.. :p
Anyway, it is probably illegal. The handbook is quite clear- Solo from the back seat only.
The ‘handbook’ says that you must FLY it solo from the rear seat, no mention of climbing out all over the aeroplane!! :p
Here’s a picture of something you can’t do in many other aeroplanes…..As I said, I always started it solo from the rear!
Will you be there Ewan?
Oh yes, wouldn’t miss it for anything (Even Old Warden zzzzzzzzzzzzzzz 😮 ) Best display of the year IMHO.
Anyone going?
Yak 11 Fan, I just know you’ll be there, what about you Janie?
Sure that the Harvard is the ex-G-BAFM
Senor Patterson, dont knock the Cri-Cri, its a fantastic handling aeroplane, even if it is small and has strange engines which you start like a chainsaw!
The guy with the blonde is Didier Chable.
The Woodchurch display has been held for 16 years, and for those who have never been, its certainly worth the trip. A sort of mix between the Warbird content of Duxford, and the informality of Old Warden, with a bit of Breighton & North Weald thrown in for good measure.
Damien B & MOTF, you’ve gotta go to record it for posterity on those pixels…
See here for further details.
Courting controvercy? I didnt touch her M’lud!
Not much to miss in a Chippie!
Sorry Tweedy old chap, I should have said “and the ATA” (who did fly a lot of different types. But the Halifax, Lancaster, Stirling et al are slightly more complex than a Cub!)
Heres my Cub (L4 or J3) Checklist, alway recited from memory. For Super Cub, add those in italics:
Pre-Take off
T Trim
M Mixture Rich
M Mags on
P Oil Temp & pressure green
F Fuel on
F Flaps set A/R
C Controls, full and free
H Harness tight
J3/L4 – Climb 55kts(50-80kts), Descend 50kts. Cruise 2000 (2000-2400) rpm
Pre-Landers
None…
B Brakes off
M Mixture Rich
F Flaps Set A/R
I always thought Cub pilots looked silly with a checklist. Checklists are for girls or pilots who fly complex types.
Or did the CAA miss this one ‘cos it sneaked it at the eleventh hour?
The CAA dont miss a thing….even at the last minute. They read this website 😮
I know the reg, but I’m not back home until Tuesday next week for those anoraks who’d like it..
At the risk of being shot down in flames by those who always know better, I just wondered how many of you passing sentance on this pilot have ever had to operate a vintage aeroplane single handed? I regularly swung my Cub single handed at my strip, always from behind the prop. It was the safest way singled handed.
IMHO, the only person at fault here is the marshaller who just stood and watched…..
