Or how about a pile of bent metal, vaguely resembling a Spitfire with which to hang a registration on and make a new one?

“…….. the whole of the aircraft’s skin has been replaced by modern materials & rivets. A brand new engine, new spars, new instruments, undercarriage and avionics have been fitted together with modern paint, modern wiring and a data logging system. 99.9% of the aircraft has been renewed, remanufactured or replaced. One of the bolts in the tailwheel assembly is original”

When does a ‘genuine’ Spitfire restoration become just another replica or kit of new parts?

Is it possible, with enough cash and time, to find a crushed chunk of aluminium in a deep hole in Holland vaguely resembling, for example, a HP Hampden or Avro Manchester and put it back together and call it the real thing?

PS, the idea for the quote was taken from a PFA magazine some 30 years ago…. Nothing seems to have changed

PPS, there’s some ‘interesting’ panel work on RM927………..If I were a customer, I wouldn’t expect to see ripples in my ‘new’ fuselage 🙂

G-AXPG was kept at the museum, like many aircraft there, by a private owner and as far as I know, was last seen down at Sedlescombe strip in a complete condition.

Also playing ‘the Hun’ were Viima G-BAAY and Jungmeister G-AYSJ and a Tiger Moth but I’ve never found out it’s identity.

Despite my post being rather tongue in cheek, aimed at the ever increasing amount of “Post your pictures of………”, it has produced a wonderful selection of oddly named aircraft…

    Hendy Heck anyone?

    😀

    Used for sextant star shots?

Maybe the aircraft has been mounted upside down?

    Psssst.

Anyone wanna but a share in a Concorde or Vulcan? Straight up Guv, it’s all pukka, know wot I mean..

£3000ish per share, only 30,000ish shares available. YOU too can fly in this masterpiece of Anglo-French engineering, just pay the money and we give you, on expensive lookin cardboard, an authentic share certificate which you too can have framed in cheap plywood. You or a ‘special’ friend can have the flight of a lifetime and own a piece of history at the same time. You can even pose with the same old BA pilot who appears in all Concorde promo videos.

As in any of these timeshare schemes, there is absolutely no hope of ever seeing your money again.

Terms & conditions apply, other scams are available. The value of a non-existant aeroplane can go down as well as down… Regulated by the IPCC and NACRO

    Quick the rozzers are coming……………………..Whoosh!

Reminds me of the Monthy Python “Nudge, Nudge, Wink, Wink sketch:D

I have been spinning Tiger Moths for over 20 years, both Private and Transport Category CofA aircraft, with and without ‘Anti Spin’ strakes fitted. There’s absolutely no difference at all in the spin recovery with or without these strakes, period. This despite what the CAA Test Flying dept would have you think…….

They were originally fitted during WW2 when the Tiger Moth was modified to carry light bombs under the centre fuselage.

G-BIXL/ ‘Miss Helen’ has a cuffed prop, but AFAIK, all other UK P-51D Mustangs have not. I believe the inspection regime is more onerous with cuffs, but Yak11 Fan would know the full details.
