Rafale deal finalised soon says Manohar Parrikar

Looks like the hatchet is buried and negotiations are back on friendly terms, just in time for the French elections in 2017…

Sorry, but how often did we hear “SOON” in regard to this deal during the last years ???

I do not want to diminish anyone, but SOON seems to have a different meaning in India.

it seems you have no understanding of clean sheet. Su-35S is complete clean sheet design. every thing from materials to flight controls to engines are designed from ground up. its not upgrade of existing airframe. Its flight qualities give it decisive advantage. do you thing they integrate every thing new without designing the airframe and stress testing?

But even if it is a newly redeveloped version using all the stuff You mention, a F-16E will never be a fifth generation fighter like the F-35, a Su-35 will never be a fifth generation type like the F-22 or T-50 and also a Il-476 will never be a more modern transport like the Y-20; period.

you have no understanding of what is consider new and old.

So You really think simply using latest CAD-manufacturing techniques, and change certain materials + add a glass cockpit + new systems by retaining the exact same external lines will make it a new design ???

It seems as if I’m indeed have “NO understanding of what is consider new and old”.

But Yes, the J-20 looks like a Su-15 :highly_amused: … You are correct indeed.

external lines does not tell the material and manufacturing technology and lifespan/weight of aircraft. not to mentiona glass cockpit and fligh controls. try put F-16E engines and loads into F-16A airframe.

wider fuselage on medium size aircraft has proven to be failure. they simply don’t have the range. that’s why you see Volga Denpr and An-124 in various low intensity conflicts.
IL-476 is proven success as it is basis of A-100 and IL-478. In high intensity conflict in desert you need to directly transport water and fuel to makeshift aircrafields. where choppers are operating round the clock.

You simply can’t or do not want to argue !??

IL-476 is not modernization but completely new plane. . It is digitally created in new factory with airframe life far exceeds the previous generations. In order for aircraft to be multifunctional you cant make it too wide/ slow or overweight.

Hmmm …. that might be in the way it is manufactured, but the external lines, its technology the airfoil of its wings and everything else is still the same and as such limited …

By the way, an aircraft with a wider fuselage has not necessarily to be more draggy and as such has “practically zero operational value”; just look at the C-17.

The engine issue is surely a major weak point, but as explained only an interim issue.

thank you for the pictures. it seems they went back to the dark green instead of the grey they were using. i wonder why?

i also wonder why fanboys who frequent the russian threads are trolling here. you don’t see chinese posters causing problems in russian threads. there shouldn’t be any butthurt over the y-20. they have their il-76 upgrades, china has its y-20. both sides are happy. end of story.

IMO it is a dark grey, some sort of anthracite or charcoal … but surely not green.

And concerning Your last part… IMO these Russian fanboys can’t be and never will be happy, simply since there is a Y-20, or a J-20, or a J-15, J-16 ….

    Anyway.

Following the latest rumour, the first two serial Y-20s were handed over to the PLAAF in a ceremony and are numbered 11051 and 11053 !

If true these numbers would indicate the 12th Regiment of the 4th Division Transport in Chengdu/Qionglai, a former/current Y-7 unit:

Following these reports, the Y-20 entered indeed service today and a ceremony was held at the CFTE. Another rehearsal was also held in Qionglai. There is a high probability that there will be another ceremony and media coverage tomorrow.

    Hopefully more later,
