SD-10 Armed JF-17
This is a little bit toooooooooooo small for my eyes !
Deino
What you say makes complete sense from a chinese perspective. J8s are in service and china is inducting new fghters as fast as it can. So no point hastily retiring the sevring j8s.
My post was more from Bangladesh perspective, who dont currently operate j8s.
YES, … and here I agree completely with You. But I think there was never a discussion about purchasing J-8s from Bangladesh ?
Deino
…
Would you still want a J-8?
It seems as if this discussion has a wrong starting-point for some here: The point is not to compare the J-8H/F against the JF-17 in order to decide what type should be purchased … the answer would be quite clear.
The point is WHY is the J-8 still in operational use – similar to so many J-7s and Q-5s – and what’s next ? Here the answer is quite simple: simply since it is in service and a successor 1) not available in required numbers soo enough or 2) a successor isn’t affordable yet in required numbers.
As such it is simply an economic decision to update and keep them in service until a true successor is available or affordable !
That’s all …
Deino
For 10 points, what is this C O C K carrying?
Any info how recent this image is ?
I would compare the Finback B-series more to the last F-4E and EJ in service today. They were updated and modernized with more modern avionics to carry a decent load of AAMs and to be used in several roles like interceptors, tactical recce and SAD. I think no-one with at least a bit common sense would compare them with the latest J-10 and J-11-fighters.
Deino
Sorry, but is there a certain reason to restart four already-dead treads again ???
@ TR1 ….
To be honest, right now there is nothing new, even more with the latest J-11D the chances for a deal are getting smaller … if there is not the quest for the 117S.
As such I do not question that there were negotiations, that there was or even is a certain interest in that bird. What I however question are these repeated pop-ups, which ONLY re-re-report old stuff and nothing new, but always project the assumption that these talks are still – in fact right now today, that moment – ongoing. And that’s simply not true.
Again I think a Su-35 in PLAAF would be a nice thing, esp. since the PLAAF so far has no experience in TVC and the using of this option in combat. However IMO there is right now a much greater interest to keep this topic on behalf of the US (uuuuhhh these evel Chinese are coming !) and from the Russian side (let’s simply sell this beast !).
Deino
But the fact that China will buy Su-35, you can not deny this
NO … it is not a fact but only a rumor reported so often that by now really no-one with a bit of understanding believes it. However it is a nice report that first of all constantly brings the Su-35 back to the news and second it gives a few (esp. in the US) the feeling that the Chinese are still buying Russian high end fighters and that is a huuuuuge danger for the free world !
Deino
According to what I looking for, all of the Chinese air force currently includes (with radar series NRIET KLJ):
JH-7A use radar NRIET Type 243H aka KJL-1/2 (range 75 km for A2A)
J-10A/JF-17/FC-1 using KLJ-3 radar or KLJ-7 (range 100-105km for A2A)
J-8DF/11A using radar KLJ-4 (range 150km for A2A)
J-10B/11B/15/16 will use AESA radar KLJ-10 or Unnamed radar AESA (range ?)
NO !!!! To admit I really do not know what You want to do or want to tell … and even more check Your sources ! This is completely BS; since when are the J-11A uses the same radar as the J-8D and F ???
JH-7A uses a JL-10A/AG (only the original first JH-7 used the Type 243H)
J-10A uses a Type 1473 sometimes called KLJ-3
J-11A uses a Russian N001V most likely upgraded to VE (as the Su-30MKK)
J-11B uses a Type 1493
JF-17 uses a KLJ-7V2
J-7E uses a Type 226
J-7G uses a KLJ-6E
J-8H uses a Type 1491 = KLJ-1
J-8F uses a Type 1492
J-15 most likely the same as J-11B
J-10B, J-16 and J-11D is so far not known !
/JF-17/FC-1 using KLJ-3 radar or KLJ-7 (range 100-105km for A2A)
J-8DF/11A using radar KLJ-4 (range 150km for A2A)
J-10B/11B/15/16 will use AESA radar KLJ-10 or Unnamed radar AESA (range ?)
I assume then you think China either will not buy the 25 SU-35s or it has another reason for buying them?
To admit the problem is not if they are probably buying 24 or nothing, the point is why do these reports, that all re-pop old reports some from years so often ?? By the way – and esp. with the J-11D now flying the Su-35 deal if it ever goes thru has then surely more economical or political reasons than an urgent need from the PLAAF. IMO it is indeed ONLY the possible access to the 117S.
Anyway IMO there are simply two reasons:
1. The Russians are desperately marketing that bird and since that deal with China – regardless how likely (see above) – seems to be in limbo right now. As such a constant flow of news in the news is at least a bit of news !
2. There is a certain political interest in the US to keep that topic open: ohhh the PLAAF buys Russia’s latest Flanker, version, the PLAAF is still expanding, the PLA is aggressively operating in the ECS and SCS, but they still have technical issues with their engines … a new and even stronger Sino-Russian alliance … OHHHHHH, that all can explain and justify the own military spending and decisions in the Pacific region.
Content wise it simply cooks up something from old and long corrected issues: Just take a look …
…
Despite the evident maturity of the J-11D program, the Chinese military nevertheless appears to also be going ahead with plans to purchase Russian Su-35 Flankers. The Su-35 is far more maneuverable than the J-11 – which gives the Russian jet an advantage in short-range dogfights – can fly longer distances, and can take off and land with a larger payload. It is also equipped with new avionics and new cockpit displays. However, its radar is a less advanced passive electronically scanned array (PESA) than the AESA system on the J-11D. Moreover, the aircraft and its systems will be manufactured abroad. The Chinese government views its indigenous defense industry as a strategic asset; purchasing more planes from Russia will not help advance Beijing’s goal of developing a mature, self-reliant aerospace industry. Given the apparent redundancy of moving forward with two very similar aircraft programs, some analysts speculate that the PLAAF’s primary motivation for buying the Su-35 may not be for its value as a weapons system but rather because it is equipped with advanced AL-117S turbofans.
So, why adding a PESA-equipped fighter into its arsenal, why an own – and therefore cheaper – AESA-equipped version is nearly ready ? At best a politically motivated deal. … or as mentioned, its the 117S engine.
… Although many of the engine’s initial teething problems have apparently been overcome, Jane’s reported last September that the WS-10 still suffers from so many faults that the “number [of engines] sent back to the…plant exceeds the amount of new production units.” ….
Exactly … and that’s the reason why – besides the current first block J-15s – we have not seen ANY AL-31F-powered Flanker off SAC’s production line since years.
For the PLAAF, purchasing the Su-35 is a win-win. They will not only get a highly capable new aircraft, they will also acquire get an engine that has the power to make their sophisticated new J-20 a world-class fighter.
Agreed, but then not only 24 aircraft ! … even more since the current 117S won’t fit on the J-20 without the same modifications by replacing the gearbox to the bottom as done with the AL-31FN for the J-10. And that would make a separate deal necessary.
Deino
Forget that piece of BS … it’s simply not worth the time to read !
…. T-50-5R should be back before 6-2.
…
Thanks for Your update again !
By the way is it correct that ‘055’ with using parts for its rebuild from ‘056’ (T-50-6-1) has progressed quite well so far (at least via my latest info) … as such making it some sort of ‘055.5’ !???

Another one ….
This is via Huitong !
This large high-altitude long-endurance (HALE) UAV has been under development at 601 Institute/SAC as an “anti-stealth” AEW platform. The UAV features a novel twin fuselage/twin vertical tailfin design with the straight main wing extending across the rear fuselage. It also has a small wing structure connecting the forward sections of twin fuselages. A SATCOM antenna is expected to be installed inside one of the head bulges. The UAV is thought to be powered by a turbofan engine (WS-11?) located above the main wing and between the two vertical tainfins. As an AEW platform Divine Eagle is expected to have multiple conformal radar antennas installed on the forward fuselages facing different directions. The VHF meter wave radar is capable of detecting stealth aircraft at a relatively long range but suffers from a lower accuracy. Therefore several Divine Eagles may typically fly in a group formation ahead while being controlled via datalink by the AWACS flying behind in a safe distance or by the ground station protected by the air defense unit. Together they act as an airborne multistatic radar system and are able to pick up the radar reflection signals of the same stealth aircraft from multiple directions. As the result the UAV can extend both the detecting range and accuracy of the AWACS against stealth aircraft. The design of Divine Eagle appear to share some similarity with the Russian Sukhoi S-62 concept which first appeared around 2000. It was reported that Russian assistance was sought during the initial development stage. A technology demonstrator was built by the spring 2015. Some specifications (estimated): height 6m, length 14m, wingspan 35m, endurance >10hr, ceiling 18km. If successfully entering the service, Divine Eagle would become the first airborne anti-stealth radar system in the world to counter American F-22s, F-35s and B-2s.

:apologetic: :apologetic: And it all was only a CG !!! :apologetic: :apologetic:
sorry guys but this photo is actually a CG done by 西葛西造舰, he has done alot of top of the class CGs of PLAN ships including 055 and future aircraft carrier. he has made a claim on weibo about this photo being his and that it was made in 2013.
