Morgan and Shacklady is the Spitaholics bible, in my view. I picked up an ‘as new’ copy a few years ago on Amazon for £18 plus p&p.

Mmmmm ! The low back Type 361s are my favourite !… especially the Mk.IXs.

I think the conventional high back is superior for speed though.

I was aware of these four Spitfires, but there is nothing in my site relating to them. There will be some interesting work going into them !

‘Any idea was the date of Cooper’s attack?

The ‘y’ in Tirpity might just be someone’s longhand, lowercase ‘z’

The CDs in common circulation have about 3500 drawings. In total I would estimate there would have been nearer 20000 for the Spitfire. I have heard there may be a lot more at Hendon that have not been catalogued.

If it’s PR.IV it has no weapons. The leading edge D box is all fuel tank (wet).

Michelin do an interesting ‘Bataille de Normandie’ map, No.102. You can buy copies in tourist shops all over Normandy. I expect they do others too.

Definitely not a real Spit, but beautifully done. When the wings are on nobody will see the difference !

If I was interested in making full scale statics I would use Corecell SAN foam. It is available in planks or sheet in varying thicknesses and densities. It is very easy to work with. If bi-axial glass reinforcement is used in the skins a very fair surface finish can be easily produced.

Corecell was originally made by ATC in Canada. Now Gurit (ex-SP) market it.

REF, I have seen your query from time to time but I can’t remember if anyone has asked you if there could be a possibility that the photo has been printed “reversed”. Would it help those who have spent some time on this to see a reversed picture alongside the current one?

This is a better theory than my far north / Arctic one.
