Thanks for the direction guys! Wow multirole missiles, I guess it was just a matter of time. This would give the ultimate in mission flexibility and force multiplication.

Great comments, the points on the new generation of PGWs that are just coming online make the argument all the more in favor of backing off the F-35. I think it would be criminal if they shut down the Raptor production line at the current 183 cap. It just seems like the putting all your eggs in the F-35 basket is a very “cold war,” narrowsighted idea to procure during an foreign occupation and GWOT.

I would definitely say the Russian style cammo, I have seen cockpit video of aggressors of both air arms over Nevada and they seem to melt right into the terrain, from above. Further I have read in many places that fleet guys going through top gun, or CVW workups, and Red Flag training had real trouble with tallying desert camouflaged jets, especially for the navy who are used to training over water, particularly with the smaller a-4s, f-5s, and f-16Ns in assorted cammo. Can you imagine how hard it would be to spot the ubove 4 tone blue aggressors flying low over water at 600knots? As for the ghost/grey schemes that are standard in USAF, USN, USMC I don’t see as very effective, from the air or the ground, I wonder why they stick with it?

I do too, navy air has always taken more “artistic freedom” with their aggressor birds than the AF, especially in recent years since the consolidation of the aggressor fleets in both services. The scheme I saw, like the one in the picture posted, was very well done and had a “soft” look to it, unlike the splinter or flanker cammo. As far as if it’s a NSWC bird, it very well could be. I have never seen one in blue, but it does look identical to the ones they operate in the brown and grey camouflage scheme. Seeing as it had no unit markings, maybe it was being transferred from vfa-97 to top gun etc. To me accurate threat simulation training is an astonishing area of modern tactical aviation. What a job huh?

Freakin AWESOME. Everytime I see a Raptor demo vid it causes me to bite my nails waiting for the 2008 season. Nothing compares to this aircraft and the saga has just begun!!
