This all sounds like a similar spat involving Sopwith/Hector. Post No. 537 & 538 onwards. http://www.theaerodrome.com/forum/replica-aircraft/36007-sopwith-snipe-project-54.html
Somewhat vague e-petition detail header, and no mention of Bourn airfield. No time to dig deeper so signed it anyway, but with that e-petition header don’t expect too many signatures.
The beautifully looked after War graves in France are well known, but I wonder how ‘remembered’ the British graves in other parts of the world are?
My Grandfather fought at the battle of Kut in Mesopotamia (now Iraq) in 1916. He was captured and made POW. Escaped and recaptured. Then the Turks cut the soles of his feet. Nasty lot the Turks. Unsurprisingly, he didn’t escape again, and mainly wore slippers for the rest of his life, but at least he survived. We still have a hand written letter from the King sent to him on his eventual return to dear old Blighty in 1919. My Father took some photos of the gravestones of some of Grandad’s fallen pals during a business trip to Iraq in the 70’s. The graves were well kept back then, but a lot has happened since. Here’s a bit about the Kut battles:-

Funny how according to Wikipedia they were not fighting Turks, but ‘Ottomans’. Just as in WWII we apparently weren’t fighting Germans, but ‘Nazis’.
I think he means Swanton Morley
There is nothing more beautiful than a wooden glider.
Richard
I can think of quite a few things infinitely more beautiful than a glider, wooden or otherwise.
What should he feel about it then, Good or Indifferent?
In that case its a total of 17 victories.
I’d never take my copy of First Light on holiday again. Last time I did some old geyser wrote on the flyleaf. Now possibly my most treasured book.
Moggy
Would that be geezer, or do you now have a very wet book?
Oooops! Edited, thanks. M
I am going on holiday in 3 weeks time and again I am stumped on which aviation related books to either take or order from amazon to take with me to read whilst sunning myself on the beach or most likely to be sat in the hotel bar whilst its raining.
So I am asking you all for your suggestions on this brain testing topic, my only stipulation is that the book subject must be historical aviation related between 1910 and 1960.Thanking you all
Jay
It depends where you are going on holiday, doesnt it? For instance, if I was going to St Petersburg, I might read ‘The 900 Days;Siege of Leningrad’. If I was going to Malta, I might read ‘Fortress Malta’ or ‘Warburtons War’. Northern France, ‘King of Airfighters’ or ‘Flying Fury’. If, however, your going to Ibiza or Benidorm, you probably wouldnt be interested in any of my suggestions anyway.
Hmmm. I stand to be corrected thanks for that. But what do you make of the big engine cowlings over the wings?. Oh and the rudders look more like Liberator or something, in the film.
It’s UPSIDEDOWN:rolleyes:
Shipdham also has two grass strips.
You kind of have to go there. Its rather difficult to describe.
Its not trapped or conflicted.
Shipdham (unlicensed, trapped in a dairy farm and conflicted with Norwich ATC).

Title should be changed to ‘People Are Stupid’
Bushell, read my post again. This is a news item from 1937. We all know it was never dropped. It’s an interesting piece of history that never happened.
Oops!
Thanks, I feel better now.
