Agree with Phil, but I don’t think Marshalls will like one little bit. But I have sent your comments to Robert.
Do you think there would be much interest if Robert carried out a web cast for Q&A’s?
If there are enough like minded people like XR we could start a civil disobedience forum! Start rallying the people that made Britain great!
I just can’t believe how much love is going on at Whitehall, They are like rabbits!
So….any ideas on a fresh approach for getting the now £500K shortfall. None of this £50 to look in the hanger business or a free mug if you donate £10,000 or more!!!!!
Strange one that, XM655 changed a shock absorber a few years back by jacking it up outside on a nice hot summers day!
Also…. Are the Waltons charging VOC for the use of the runway??????
I will check again. I spoke to Robert yesterday and asked him for a sum. He said £500k. Not all at once though, it would be nice! The project will survive if he can demostrate that donations start to flow again. I am under the impression donations have dried up, but thats my opinion.
If I get a chance today, I will ask VOC this question, as it is a question that the HLF would have also asked atthe time of the grant application. The £500k has to be for something, again I will ask this. That PLC will no doubt pay a divedend to its shareholders regardless due to its other businesses. At least the other OEMs have been upfront with VOC. I very much doubt Rolls Royce will try this trick.
I have suggested Pay Pal a while back to them, I created the e bay ID vulcantothesky for them. They have not used it!
Bruce – I agree. But a sudden £500k uplift in costs coming out of the blue. VOC knew there would be a – or + on the overall costs and that had been accounted for in the costings to the HLF. The HLF are ok about that, but are not OK at a PLC putting a gun to the head of a charity for more cash.
I suggested to them some time ago to use the portal http://www.justgiving.com . Its a lot easier and has a personal touch to it.
Phil is correct in his statement. And there is a time line within the project, where a decision will be made. To put the wheels on tow it out and call it a day. Note: The undercarriage has been returned to VOC from Dowty’s.
I think VOC have had to underwrite the failure of the rebuild or non flight, with a leading Insurance company.
So the HLF will get there money back if the project folds. The aircraft will remain with the charity until they fold.
I know they have threatend us with “Save or Scrap before, not the best way to rise to the challenge I know.
But all said and done that campaign did raise over £1.6m. The sticking point is that we have all donated to the various schemes and still they are unable to raise £300K in the last 6 months.
The uplift is due to one of the contractors involved in 558, and I know Dr Robert Pleming meets with them today and he will try and work out plan with them, as the HLF will not pay this Uplift. If the contractor cannot quote correctly a price it should not be down to the HLF and ultimately us to pay for this. I think we would all be in agreement with that.
We all have a lot on your plates at the moment, fuel prices, council tax increases, expensive hair do’s for President Blair’s wife. It’s all going to pot. We can’t even build a national stadium on time these days!
If you have any ideas, other than scrap or sell it to the Americans, please PM me or reply so we can all discuss openly.
I am not speaking on behalf of VOC, VTTS, HLF, but I will take positive thoughts to a senior member of the project for consideration and that person will respond back.
£500 – £600K gets it re buillt, test flight, and application to the CAA for permit to display.
What do forumites want to do – its your aircraft. Do you want to call it a day now, that being VOC will stick some wheels on it and tow it out of the hanger.
Or speculate by investing say £20 now and being more part and more of a say in the future operation of the aircraft.
Discuss?
Acondition of the lottery cash was that 558sport colours that represent the Cold War era. So no to Red Bull!unless they are happy to have avery small logo on the tail.
Urr – test flight November 2006. Submission for display permit Spring 2007.Vulcan attendance to airshows will be based on a sealed bid process!
XL388 about three years ago at Walpole.
XL388 moved about two years ago to Aeroventure at Doncaster for restoration. I have’nt seen her since I look around her about 3 years ago. She needed a lot of internal equipment when I looked at buying her.
