http://www.savethevulcan.com nice site and looks the part! Go now to it and decide what you want to do!
It’s DAVID Thomas not Dave Thomas 😉
I met Margaret a number of years back at the RAF Club, We kept in contact and she was very passionate about her fathers work and aircraft designs. I was saddened earlier today to find an e mail from the family and about the news.
Farnborough charge a fortune even for small aircraft. Hope the operator has negotiated a discount 😮
The airfield owners are not charging XH558 while it’s ‘stuck’ so nice one TAG Aviation for helping out this old cash strapped V Bomber out and not charging.
So she made it out of Brize destined for Farnborough only to go “tech” with a brake problem? Did she not make it home yet then??
Depends what you call home!
Yep – one of the brakes need replacing so it’s staying around Farnborough for a few weeks. The main problem is resource as techies/crew are going on there well deserved post season hols and won’t be back for a week or two.
At the mo.
Depart 15.00hrs heading to Hook turning northbound. There are 20,000 cars at Bruntingthorpe so I hear, parked up, so it might be tight!
Crew for this years final flight (and it is the FINAL flight for 2008, come on lets see her off!).
David Thomas
Bill Perrins
Barry Masefield
Best view point for local chaps are Tweslesdown Hill, Fleet Shopping Centre Car Park.
Saturday 18th October is of course one year on from first flight.
I will get the depart times for Saturday. Likley routing will be Farnborough, NE Basingstoke, Newbury, Oxford, Northampton running into Bruntingthorpe around 16.00hrs. The owners of the airfield *might* let you in at Brunty. It’s been done before.
It’s on the VOC site, refresh your browser.
Watching that was like having all my Christmas in one go. Wish I had paid out the cash now! I will be kicking myself all daynow:mad:
Nope, not me. Would love to have had ride but with a wife, 2 kids and a mortgage, word would have got back on my lavish spending spree. Throttled 558, had a ride in 655, just need acovert trip to Southend if the opportunity comes up again. I can always say I am going to Ikea!
My bid is in!
Vulcan No Show – 1 more appearance to go!
It is with great sadness that VTST have to announce that due to technical problems XH558 will not be appearing at Siverstone or Goodwood this weekend . Fuller details will be posted later today
The reason for the cancellations of the display flights this weekend is that we have been monitoring the engines during this season by the means of magnetic chip detectors fitted to the sump of each of the engines. These give the team the ability to foresee any potential change to the internal parts of the engine by the collection of magnetic debris and No2 engine has been showing signs over the last 6 hours of some change. Following consultation with MA and Rolls Royce this morning the team has been advised to change No2 before the next Display, Please note this is a precautionary engine change and we will keep you informed of our progress.
I think we can sum it up. The last flight of the Vulcan will be at Duxford on October 5th????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????
a) Fulfill some of the conditions imposed by the award of a lottery grant?
Condition meet – to restore a Vulcan Bomber to full working order.
b) Give as many people an opportunity as possible to see 558 in case the axe does fall and they have to ground her?
This has been met to a point.
c) To try and attract a sponsor or sponsors to ensure her long term future?
Tried, but no one wants to sponsor the original WMD regardless of it’s net worth.
We tried and gave it our best and our best gave us XH558.
I heard from someone it had landing gear failure or problems.
If it had landing gear failure, they would still be dragging it off the runway today!
I think an update is due soon ie. in the next 8 hours or so, if 558 will make this weekends events. Fingers crossed.
Did anyone else see the Typhoon duo depart. How fab was that? Thought I was at Binbrook for a minute!
