Noticed I parked the Volvo behond the SAAB. I have learned not to leave your car behind a Vulcan when its turning out!
We did not have anyone on the market as the group is very small and it was all hands to the deck.
Come along on June 19th to the full power taxi run. We have the Blue Eagles coming along as well as a DC3.
Good photos – well done.
More soon at http://www.xm655.co.uk
I reckon about 13.30 for the air start, then cross feeding the engines for 10 minutes, then she might go for a little walk, if ATC permit.
I thought he was a total ding dong, using ‘Pucka’ all the time. But I have the high regard for him now. Watched his school dinners prog and pleased he has brought school dinners to my attention. Would shake his hand anyday.
This aircraft is historic and should , in my opinion, handed over to either Cosford/Hendon/Duxford.It would be a jewel in the cold war era which ‘history’ is starting to shine on now. What state will this airframe be in 15-20 years time?
I doubt we will see any more Cold War Jet days there for a while.
I agree – I have spoken to the proposed crew and they see no reason why the display should differ.
What we must be aware of though, is that there are no spare undercarige legs (even in the RAF there were not enough legs for the entire Vulcan fleet) for XH558, so it will be an engineering decision on how they fly the aircraft.
A display sequence will be vaildated by the CAA, when the crew and aircraft pursue a display cert from them.
The MOD offically handed over XL361 to the Mayor of Happy Valley in the mid 1980’s.
The repaint will take some doing, and I imagine what H&S implications there are on site.
Shame about Goose, every one I have met who has been there has fond memories of the base and the Bulldog Bar.
Got a nice Vulcan video about Vulcans & Goose that was made in the mid 1970’s.
I thought the Valiant was off to to Cosford! Maybe there is another one, at Gaydon. Just a thought!!!!!
The seller might not be land owner, so when times up, the landowner can claim compensation for having the Vulcan still parked there. £20k to dismantle it and move it from A – B, no chance. You can only take the wings back to the engine roots. Thats why the street lights in Hazel Grove were hinged when they transported them from Chadderton to Woodford. If it ever gets to the pub I’ll stick £100 behind the bar for a forum meet!
apparently the buyer was on Radio Lincoln today saying that he
didn’t realise how big it was, and that he thought the aircraft’s wings
folded. I think he must have been thinking of a Sea Vixen.
The front windows had a layer of gold in them. At the time each window cost about £18,000 each.
I thought Osma Bin Laden mentioned XL391 in his recent video tape?
There is more chance of the Caspian Sea Monster flying out of Monino than XL391 out of Blackpool!!!!
XL391 has some historical interest, Went to Asention Is in 1982 and first Vulcan off the production line at Woodford with 301’s installed – I think!
If a scrapy gets her I might take the nose as a going concern!
Here is what the cockpit was like a few years ago!
