I would like to advise that a Dragon Rapide will be at Wellesbourne Mountford on June 20th and taking passengers on 20 minute flights for 35 quid.
The aircraft will be attending the Vulcan XM655 Taxi demonstration which is also planned for 14.00hrs. There will also be helicopter flights for I think 25 quid.

They have no current funding to re paint or restore. 607 has ‘care & maintenance’ only. But she is safe.
The best way forward for museum Vulcs is to get the 201 end caps reproduced in GRF and get a job lot done. Though getting all the museums to commit to this would prove a task I think.
Or 558 will use 201 end caps up and TVOC could auction u/s ones to museums as 558 goes through them during its flight career.
Same action for the few 301 Vulcs but it will cost just as much really.
At the end of the day and after 20 years of static museums pieces, there are plenty of things a Vulc needs to maintain its cosmetic appearence for the next 20 years.
Mag alloy I think, there are one of the first things to corrode on a Vulcan. Even when in the RAF, they did not last long.
We are on a promise of 4 new 301 end caps for 655, and should be with us duringthe summer.
Correct – you won’t get in XM607 I’m afraid. However XM602 will be travelling around the UK and you will be able to get inside that.
If you know any surplus stores still selling Vulcan items, do let me know, I am missing the odd items in my cockpits.
Many of the items are now in the Vulcan Cockpit section XM602 which is the one based at BAE Systems Woodford.
For many years the crew door could not open. Then one Waddo air show access was achieved and the contents could be seen being loaded into a Transit van. Station Commander approved this excercise, though I would have left such an important airframe as complete as poss in the cockpit.
Not sure about Waddo, but XM607 has a new home on the base closer to the A15. There is a small team on site looking after her. Her end caps need replacing and hopefully later in the year the end caps from XM655 at Wellesbourne will be donated to XM607.
The cockpit inside is entirly gutted though, which is a shame.
Something planned for August 7th so I have heard, third hand. LPG is now 11th July at Bruntingthorpe.
Action!
There is a long term decision to be made on XM655 this year.We have spent years getting her to where she is today. She will never fly and we are not getting younger, so preservation is the long term goal here.
We just wish we had a longer runway so we could exercise her and get that Vulcan howl going!
She can do it, but being a 301 Vulc you have to take her up high with the brakes on to get it, unlike a 201 Vulc where you just touch the throttle and it jumps about screaming!
The crew are the best!
655 performed well. Carried out an engine test, shut down, checked oils, then started her up again and went for a walk down the short runway.
Crew radioed the tower to advise of the walk down the dis used, and was told in no uncertain terms that ‘thats not disused’ by ATC!
XM655 is ready to rock and roll for its public outing on June 20th.
Well done TPS. A donation will be made. Nice to read a success story.
When I popped in two years ago, the aircraft looked a lot worse than they do now. The photos show that they have been washed. When I was there, Crows were roosting in the NF18 engine cells.
