Does any one know what the tranmission date of the Biggin Airshow 1982 was. There are ways of getting the footage out of the BBC vaults! I an idea of transmision date helps the searching!

I phoned Scampton this morning, and the girl said 14.30 along the Thames.
We won’t have this sort of problem when a Vulcan is flying!

Was is Fleet, next to Fleet Pond. For a few years it had the tail end sticking out of the water. Sold up two years ago and now is a Chef and Brewer.

Duxford would not scrap 824, if 558 went there. Duxford has a different view on long term restoration unlike say Cosford.

Bruce – 15 years is the life of the project, but this could change upon the amount of usage per year and if sponsorship could be found throughout the 15 year term.
TVOC will manage all of that.

I have spoken to a member of the steering committee that advised TVOC, and at the time (3 years ago) it was confirmed that there was no objection by the CAA to change the display format when in civil hands. But what TVOC will have to decide is based on equipment life. EG. If performing a ‘roller’ at airshows over a summer period of say 26 weeks, that could be 52 + rollers that would add wear and tear to main wheel units. Indeed landings away from home would add wear and tear on the aircraft,so it might perform at the airshow then go home. And Finningley is NOT currently on the cards.
The first year at least of operational use will be based at Bruntingthorpe, which will then be reviewed.

LATEST PROJECT UPDATE:
To our partners, supporters and friends –

We are now a matter of a few weeks away from the December HLF Trustees meeting, at which our grant application will be tabled for decision.

We know that we have submitted a strong case, demonstrating real value-for-money over many years, with a very substantial breadth and depth of support; the HLF have been complimentary about the quality of our application.

We know that we are asking the HLF Trustees to make an exception to their current policy of not normally funding the restoration of aircraft to flight, however we also know that we have proved that our situation is unique, and will not establish a precedent.

Vulcan To the Sky still has some way to go to reach our “Partnership Funding” target of £500,000, to prove to the HLF the continuing strength of public support. We are now asking all of our supporters and friends to make a further monetary pledge (which will only be redeemed when the HLF say “Yes”), and importantly to ask their friends and colleagues to do the same.

Pledges on the attached form should be addressed to: Vulcan To the Sky – Save Our Heritage, FREEPOST, PO Box 3240, Wimborne, Dorset BH21 4ZZ.
You may also make pledges by phone, on 0800 0832022, or by email to vulcantothesky@aol.com ,providing your (or your friend’s or colleague’s) name and address, and the amount pledged.

Please would you now circulate this email to your own distribution list?

The Vulcan To the Sky Programme remains viable: the project to return Avro Vulcan XH558 to flight remains feasible from a technical and regulatory perspective; the aircraft and other assets are secure; the required information, spares and other non-financial resources are available; the support from BAE Systems, Marshall Aerospace, all the other OEMs and supporting companies remains solid; and support from the public, aviation heritage and the media is as strong as ever. Funding remains the sole constraint to moving forward.

The award of an HLF Heritage Grant is now the only chance to reach our goal. XH558 will be scrapped if no HLF grant is awarded.

Now is the time to reply to this email, and promise that further contribution in support of Avro Vulcan XH558.

Many thanks for your continuing support and commitment; please email or call me if you have any questions.

Display life of XH588 could be 15 years if the hours are used up carefully. Next!

The display routine that 558 use to do, screaming take offs, rollers and all that, have been approved by the CAA, so I would expect to see a similar display routine in civvy street.

Branson said no. If Branson does not think of the idea himself it does not happen.
Format will be like the Red Arrows, you will be able to book the aircraft and if in transit and near you, it could open village fetes etc, just like the Red Arrows do!
Easy!

The RAF/MOD use to charge a nomial charge for a 7 minute Vulcan display – £1000. If they charge the true cost, she (XH558) would never have been booked for displays. The HLF grant is to complete the engineering work required for flight. That is, the HLF grant will get 558 on the runway, engines running. For displays, XH558 like many other vintage aircraft will need some help via a sponsor(s). As a guide, a few Sea Vixen display costs an airshow organiser about £5-6k. There are companies who are very interested in branding with XH558, however they want to see it all put back together first, which has always been the issue with sponsorship.
The new application is very different to the old one. You try completing one, it takes some doing.
Next this forum will be blaming 558 for the price hike at RIAT 2004!
And of course those who paid for there names to be on the bomb bay doors, will have there names on there for the first flight.

To clarify one point, Rolls Royce will support the 8 Olympus 202’s that TVOC. In fact the airframe will out live the engines, due to the restrictions that will be put on the 202’s when cleared for flight.
I have read all your personal reviews on this thread with interest. Also to note is that airshows will not have to pay for a Vulcan Display. She will display with the love from the British public who funded her through the HLF grant. I was in the 558’s hanger last night (I had permission!) and a lot of work has been done pre major service. We might as well finish what we started and get a Vulcan in display gain.
David Walton is currently the owner of XH558.

Rather late in replies, so he goes,

Whats the best for 603,
If she went to Manchester airport, I think that would be good as a Vulcan and Concorde together would be a good example on how how both are linked.
The 603 Club would be gutted though, but the end of BAE Woodford I think is near. To move her, big money, take the wings to the engine roots could be done, but getting her to MAN would be difficult. Not sure of the internals of the Antonov 225, but is could land at Woodford and I think Manchester, or Elvington but this is a big cash project.
301’s to Wellesbourne, yes please!
From a quick look last week, the guys at MAN, seem to have a good set up, but the more airframes you have the harder is gets and you still have to cut the grass!
The current spares holding at Woodford are ear marked for Bruntingthorpe.
It took the RAF MU 6 months to carfeully dismantle and move the Vulcan to Hendon, and it was done undercover.
In this world of H&S, and expenditure and if BAE own 603, I think they will scrap 603 for spares recovery with the PR of saying they are helping a Vulcan fly.
Hopefully we have a few more years of 603 yet. I know the guys who care for her, and they are doing a really good job in trying to keep her looking good. But none of us are getting any younger.

655 – we have ATC through the cockpit all the time and they love it, but then they are off to see Tornado’s and Eurofigthers and Vulcans can’t beat the lateset techy in these a/c, when this gerneration has been brought up on Play Stations and X Boxes!
We have the local ATC ‘Chapter’ help us on our run days, and usually bung a cadet in the cockpit on a fast taxi!
