I had no problem with the enthusiast day, or weekend displays at SBAC on the public days.
But before the RIAT cancellation, 558 was just going to be static during the week at Farn, I just feel that the displays during the week would have been better rescheduled elsewhere round the country to reach a wider audience, on another weekend.I’m assuming, possibly wrongly, that because of the RIAT cancellation, the 2 displays have been allocated to SBAC during the week.
This maybe a sweeping generalisation, but I suspect amongst a typical trade day audience, there are a fair few hangers on who would neither recognise a Vulcan nor bother to contribute to its upkeep, preferring instead to avail themselves of the hospitality.
Sour grapes rant terminated:mad:
I think funding after Farnborough might be issue and also the next qtr insurance premium is due I think which is around £40K.
558 did a very varied tour last week around England, a lot of people saw her in transit, but I expect did nothing to increase revenue.
At least doing a display at Farnborough and with the VOC people present they can press the flesh with aviation industry and try and squeeze some cash out of them?
Also I am to believe a main leg needs replacing, so not many more landing left on the one that needs changing before she goes in for that service.
Just as I feared…….the two displays not flown at RIAT are to be wasted on the trade types during the week.
Surely it would have been better for the PR campaign if 558 could have flown these displays at other events.
As I understood it, 558 was sponsored for RIAT and Farnborough.
558 is flying on Wednesday because a kind aviaton related company sponsored the expences to do so. In turn it will attract the attention of those attending Farnborough – tick good.
Friday is a enthusiasts day and a trade day – the Vulcan belongs to us, so the public get to see the Vulcan over Hampshire – tick good.
Vulcan will display Saturday and Sunday to the en masse public delighting them and great goodwill and hopefully some cash…again tick good.
Cash will start to run out after Farnborough, unless enough of us would consider donating £7 pounds a month by DD. http://www.tvoc.co.uk/help.asp
XH558 is now at Farnborough. She is due to display Wednesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday of Farnborough week.
Vulcan is due at Fairford 11.05am tomorrow. She will display and land.
You better:
A) have ticket
B) get there at the crack of dawn to be in the gate for 11!
Good luck!
At a guess I would expect Mr Withers to get his DA, not sure who else as Mr Mac Dicken has not been on test flights for a while, but that does not mean he can’t get his DA as well.
See this great aircraft with a great pilots while you can and enjoy DT’s display.
Maybe enough people will decide to part with £7 a month to make this wonderfull opportunity continue into 2009.
Those going to Lincolnshire this weekend – enjoy it. I have to wait another week!
Permit to Fly
Suggest checking this – it’s updated at 01.00hrs each night.
is it worth me spending the entrance fee to RIAT to see 558? will she be there? 🙂
There are other options, if you are like me and refuse to stump up the £40 on the day, just because I choose the day to go when I have heard what the weather will be like and don’t pre book.
I like to think she will be on site this year.:)
From what we are being told, XH558 will be at Waddington, but not as part of the flying display, and she will have to depart on Thursday, return Monday, as the runway is in use for a kit car show all weekend.
Well at least Waddington will be a good place to see the names on the bomb bay doors which many of us paid £40 to do so. Can’t see us getting close to 558 at RIAT or Farnborough to checks the names out really.
Departure is 11am.
NOTAM is out for tomorrow – 23rd June.
It covers the period 1000-1800.
Cheers
TJ
Training flight for Mr Withers so I am told.
Vulcan Crew will be:
David Thomas
Mike Pollitt
Barry Masefield
Two Vulcans on power within 24 hours of each other – things must be looking up!
No TVOC made it clearer than that by saying Duxford.
TVOC might not even own 558 in 10 years time! A lot of water under the bridge still to go yet!
Any chance of Waddington or will 607 be the only delta there that day ?
Worded carefully – XH558 should/will be at Waddington, because if Waddington agree a civil jet during airshow week to arrive then a Vulcan will be at Waddington.
Though 558’s test flights are complete, the air frame and crew can continue to fly the aircraft under the MA test flight permit.
So in theroy if VOC decide to russle up a training flight around Waddington then we will see a Vulcan flying, the DA and permit to fly should be around this time also.
I hope this helps.
