This is the image I have from Wilson Airport, though I might now get shot down in flames for saying its a Dak!
I will be in Kenya over Christmas, and will down the coast so might get a look at whats there. I think there is a Dak at Wilson, NBO.
I have the video of it somewhere, taken from the USAF Radar image, quite interesting.
If I find the vid, I will put it on You Tube.
going by this, i take it the runways at southend and at wellesbourne have been dramatically shortened since their vulcan’s arrived?
Wellesbourne have said that they do not want 558 near them, beacuse they would not be able to cope with the influx. Shame, I was always promoting the idea, and the airfield owners said to me they would assist in making it happen – open up surrounding fields for parking etc.
G’ day all again.
Here a link to a great site, and good detail on Roy’s life and early finish.
I think it has detail’s about the fatal crash near the bottom of the page..
Avro

:dev2: CROC’S RULE!!:dev2:
The web site is looked after by Roy Chadwicks daughter, who is still very passionate about her fathers work.
I agree David and not want to digress for the fear of a mod, the Sea Vixen is owned by a private chap, so public pennies are not forthcoming. If such a bird went into say ” Sea Vixen Operating Company” and Charity status, then public funding might be more forthcoming. Corporate funding for Foxy sits in the same silo as the Vulcan. We all want our favorite airframe flying but its a mixed industry with different angles given depending who you speak to. ?
Pain Factor
It was always my understanding that the HLF would take each and every case on its merits so any indication that 558 has ‘Killed Off’ lottery funding is doubtful, as for the CAA never found them ‘Antsy’ about anything, just determined to follow the rules, or rather determined that every application for a permit too fly will and there is the true problem over and above financial ones, getting the required infrastructure in place to allow the CAA to look on such a project as viable, groups can’t, so they don’t.
sad about the RAF and the Tax regime in the UK but that’s what you get when you allow Politicians to dabble for their own mediocre ends.
Which ever way you look at it though, 558 may really be the last such return too flight in the UK of a large complex airframe unless TVOC take on further work to support there original project and keep there core staff employed and allow them too train up replacements, something they really need to be doing.
Well, the relationships has been built with OEM’s/CAA/Design Authority so maybe in 10 years a Victor or Lightning? Depends if TVOC want to go through it all again. Personally I think they should…it would put some added value to airshows in 10 years time.
24 August 2017 Clacton Air Show
“next up is the RAF’s Typhoon, followed by ur hmm, a RAF Typhoon, then rare glimpse of a RAF Chinnock. That completes todays display, thank you for coming”
Finnigley 1992 was the last time I saw this girl on her final public display, when the bomb doors were opened to reveal a banner saying “Farewell”. Let’s hope, very soon, she can display “I’M BACK!”
Let’s keep the good vibes and good will going!
Chris
Not sure Chris
I and many many others paid £40 to have our names on the bomb bay doors 6 years ago.
The Return of the Vulcan
Hopefully a good news thread in the coming weeks to come. Lets just absorb the Olympus engines going for it, then and watching the news coverage.
Might even put the Great back in our country…who knows?
Fizzy wine in the fridge keeping cool!
Well Said Peter
With the Bank Holiday weather looking good and 558 doing high powered runs yesterday could this be the week end for the big event.
Will ther be people camping out around Brunty this weekend hopeing this will be it.
Good luck to the team for the programme for today some of us are to far away to hear her engine runs but like a lot of us we are finding out via the syber phone.
On a weekend so close to the original first flight, sadly not, they will have brake tests and Chute tests I expect. Soonish though!
Stunning video 903, the touch and go was breathtaking, took my breath away and left me with a lump in my……throat:diablo: .
I don’t mind if they hold everything till next airshow season, better to get it right rather than mess it up now after all they have done so far.
Regards,
John.
Thanks John
I have a few more to go up tonight, Bournemouth Air Show etc.
I think the crew will spend the winter doing currency then next March/April put in for there display ticket to the CAA. The display I think is based on the RAF one you have just seen on You Tube, but maybe a little lighter on the engines and undercarriage.
so…….
Moving along from domestic bliss.
Any news on whats going on today at Bruntingtorpe? BBC London News covered the engines being run yesterday.
Tht is the first time I have seen video from her last landing at Brunty!
Yes i was there along with my mum! I remember walking back to the car, thinking…this an’t over yet!
Roy Chadwicks daughter has just contacted me, to say that East Kirkby might be hold an event over the Bank Holiday to mark the occasion?
Lighten the mood up a bit!
I have started to upload my old Cam Corder footage of 558 displays of the early 1990’s. Take a look! Some of it is rather good, but sorry for some camera shake, which I always got, when she was taken up on the brakes to get the howl going!

Steve McCroskey: What the heck is that?
Johnny: Why, that’s the Russian New Year. We can have a parade and serve hot hors d’oeuvres…
