    Also, the vertical stabiliser (Tail fin in leymans terms) and Horizonatal Stabilisers are unique to the 777. The Fin is very slender in proportion to the rest of the aircraft.
    In contrast, compare it to the tails of other Boeing aircraft. The 757 and 767 units look identical… they are not exactly… one being bigger than the other for obvious reasons along with internal differences. The 747 has its destinctive tail

    As to how it contributes to performance and stability on the 777, I don’t know. I would say no one short of a Boeing engineer will be able to answer that.

    Thanks Bmused! That has been very infomative. Currently doing a project on the 777, its aerodyanmics, performace and handling characteristics.

    What happened? Landing gear fault? What are the most common faults for belly landing?
