Scott,
Given the evidence available at the time of his trial, which by the by was not held in accordance with usual Scots Law, he was found guilty by a panel of three judges, and as many commentators stated at the time, if he had been tried in front of a jury, he would probably not been found guilty.
As far as the hero’s welcome is concerned it hardly falls within the remit of the Scottish Exec/govt to tell his supporters not to turn out and welcome him home, remember in their eyes he was innocent, no one person from the Libyan govt was there to see him home, nor has Gaddaffi so far made contact with him.
Just one last point, in the time since the SNP took over running the country there has been four appeals for early release on compassionate grounds due to terminal Illness, all of these have been granted, so to suggest that this is an isolated incident is far from correct. The people you mention who have died in jail have nought to do with the Scottish Govt.
“A shame that 90% of the world will now see Scotland as a buzz word for weak fools”.
I don’t know where that came from Scott, but that is patently untrue, Most of the respected media across Europe have stated in the last twenty four hours that the decision to allow release was the correct one, the only criticism seems to be the sort of cack handed way it was dealt with, even the respected broadsheets in the States don’t have it as any leader story, the point highlighted by them was the rather distasteful welcome he got on returning home.
I would rather be governed by people who have some compassion and will listen to the people who elected them, than the shower of untruthful turds 400 miles south of Glasgow, who were too busy with their noses in the trough to be paying attention to what was going on elsewhere. I make the last statement with the greatest respect to the fine people of England, Wales and N.Ireland who also have to put up with these idiots in London.
Anyway Bud, bad to aeroplanes, you missed a nice wee USA C40-B into EDI today.
Awra Best.

Watching the breathtaking hypocrisy of the US government condemning the Scottish Exec for releasing al-Megrahi.
The hardest evidence that convicted this man was an eye witness shopkeeper in Malta who could quite clearly remember this guy coming into his shop and buying articles of clothing, two years after the fact, the fact that he was paid several Million US$ probably helped jog his memory. All other evidence was best described as circumstantial.
This would be the same US citizens who shed not one tear for the 290 dead passengers and crew of the Iranian airliner the US Navy shot down, the airliner was flying within Iranian airspace legally, the US Ship was however Illegally in territorial waters, to date the US have never apologised for what they did, in fact the then President Bush Snr stated he “would never apologise for the United States”.
Sadly too many people look for revenge from a justice system and when they don’t get it, they remain unhappy. There was too little strong evidence to safely convict al-Megrahi, and Too many questions left unanswered to see a man jailed for life.

Having worked at the site about 8 hours after the aircraft came down, I also have very vivid memories of scene.
Like others have said it is something in Scottish history and I feel it should never be forgotten, another reminder of the destruction humans can wreak on thier fellow humans.
I’m sure if the families agree to the exhibit, it will be a tasteful and suitable display.

I’m with kevin on this one, old stories rehashed and retold. As far as T5 is concerned, BAA were as much if not more to blame for what when on, and yet on the show very little was made of the BAA involvement.
As far as the cancelling of flights etc, the show was comparing BA with their major competitors at their home hubs, It was hardly a level playing field, when you consider the capacity available at FRA, CDG and AMS when compared to LHR.
