The contributions that he’s made in recent years is open to debate and it has provided a potential martyr to act as a rallying point which could act to make things worse.

Whilst what he has been responsible for has caused the death of thousands, is he any worse than all the other dictators or despots around the world who are responsible for the deaths of just as many?

The US seem to have wanted to get revenge for the events of 9/11 and with the main protagonists already dead this will have to do.

Quite a shock, his presenting style was always a good balance and easy to take in, he will be missed

If this really is true then I might have to by a lottery ticket as well, got more chance of winning that, but can live in hope

I can assure you that it was never a desirable job.

I’m just repeating what I was told by someone who did enjoy having a bit of fun with it in the early 60s’

thanks for all that, from what I gather at Strubby, a pilot had to be in control of the jet engine but would be reprimanded by the driver if it was given too much juice or ended up removing chunks of tarmac, but was at the time a very desirable job among the pilots due to the lack of flying.

 I am slightly confused. Did it crash first, or overshoot first?

It failed to explode first, the rest is immaterial! 😀

The first thought would be a F22 but would it be likely that there are any F35s over here for evaluation purposes? Ok so they’re a bit smaller and not questioning your observation skills but if the F15 is the only reference point then the assumption could be made.

Interesting to see it in the pre-paint scheme and guess they couldn’t wait any longer to try it out, must admit I’d probably feel the same way!

    Great effort

Had this relayed to me from the family Argosy pilot…

That tale rings a bell so might be true. I had heard of Firk but
    never went there.

But I did fly over Phuket in Thailand. The three letter code was PHU.

The story goes that a posh voice with British Airways reported that he
    was over “Foo Kay”

The Frenchman reported: “The Papa ‘otel ooniform”.

The Australian when asked his position put on his best Aussie accent
    and replied “F*ck It”

Er, I received June’s A*******e magazine ( not sure if one’s allowed to mention it here), on Thursday (and I’m in darkest Fife). Nothing unusual on pp10/11

there is a nice picture on p19 though and back to mags we are allowed to talk about, a familiar face (or name) on p76 of Fly Past

CYN and then a K or R but I would favour the R, beyond that I can’t help.

Do you have a website or other details as I have a friend who is heavily involved with Polish veterans in the East Midlands and there may be some who would be interested in attending.
