Caught a quick glance of a twin boomer heading north, following the M1 at Leicester at 15.45 today, anyone got an idea of which one it would have been?
Also saw a Dakota heading in the same direction at about 18.00 – 18.30ish this evening, pleasingly low.
On the up side it was a c*ck up that in the scheme of things isn’t all that great, easy enough to rectify and no harm done
Art is as much about the thought process and experience that leads to a final outcome as much as the final outcome itself.
Still it sounds like she does know her subject which is more than can be said for some artist’s work I’ve encountered in the past.
And I was told that the wings on the Spitfire are going to be replaced in a couple of weeks time.
With what, some spare wings from a Lanc?
So scheme B is just a reversal of colours of scheme A and would therefore I assume boil down to one of two things, which was carried by the a/c represented or…and I think this will be the deciding factor, which is easier/cheaper to repaint?
From what I can make out of photos in ‘First Light’ QJ T looks like it is scheme A but I don’t know how likely it would be for the entire squadron to all have the same scheme, I’m sure that someone else would be able to help on that score.
BUT a photo of GRS (captioned ‘Alan Wright getting out of his plane’) seems to have the same mixture of wing being one scheme and fuselage being the other scheme indicating that the wings came from a different a/c.
It could actually be that through luck or intention they got it right after all!
That made me smile, so which is correct the fuselage or wings?
A couple of minutes in photoshop and illustrator gives my interpretation of it, think this is more like it including the point at the bottom of the shield.
The symbol in green looks like an upper case ‘C’ in an Old English font, the nearest match I could find from my collection is CloisterBlack BT, though there are some discrepancies which would be easy enough to fix
Congratulations to all involved on what looks like it was a tough job, fingers crossed for the test.
sorry, wrong link on the clipboard, should work now
The VCR bill whilst making it illegal to manufacture or sell a Replica Imitation Firearm (RIF) does have some clauses for those who have just cause to have a RIF if it can be proven that it is for a justifiable purpose such as re-enacting or airsofting, though to help pacify the home office the airsoft retailers have set up a self regulating body to help keep everyone happy.
I don’t know exactly how the VCR applies to manufacturing or owning RIFs with regard to aircraft but I would assume considering how many military vehicles are seen with everything from a Sten to a SA80 there must be some exception for restorers.
Did you mean XV109?
Who can I speak to about trying to get hold of a couple on mementos from 807?
That plane was the first and last plane my Grandfather flew as captain and was his favourite VC10!
Likewise it would be nice to get a bit of a VC10 if there is something gooing
also some departures of some longer term residents
Any indications of which ones? Would like to get a good photo walk round of them before they go
Certainly both sides had the opportunity to evaluate the opposition but would the test pilots have been able to spend sufficient hours on the type to gain the level of confidence and familiarity that the aces would have had, plus would they have been able to fly under the extreme conditions that aerial combat produces?
That would scenario would give the best outcome, as has already been said the only view that really counts is that of the men who flew them and the majority will be biased towards their own a/c
inkworm – I think you mean the Hurricane, don’t you?:)
I don’t think I emphasised enough how many facts need to be, plastered, sanded, painted and glossed over, failing that just as a tabloid journalist!
Would either have won it without being in the right place at the right time?
