One comparison may be the current state of F1 cars, all developed by different teams coming from different directions but the top cars all managed to be within a second or so of each other over the course of a lap and are to all intense purposes equal, however factor in external influences such as weather, support crew, the driver (pilot) and their confidence, moral, experience, other cars on track etc and it will give one an advantage over another on one day but on another day the factors may be different.

The same is true of the ‘which is better’ debate and by glossing over a great many facts, the Spit won the Battle of Britain 🙂

Can someone explain in layman’s terms for this layman the purpose of the wave guide?
