Oooh nice, which airfields are they flying over or is it the same one (Lossie)? And why the ‘target’ in the first photo, would that be for rotary wing?
A quick post as I’ve just got back and a big thanks to everyone involved in making today such a good day, shame the Hunter had a few teething problems but the weather held.
Great to see both F104s parked up together as well!
looking forward to coming over at the weekend and seeing everything and the result of all the hard work that has been put in
I suppose there are one or two lying around in the south atlantic, personally I think that the lines of the Harrier were spoilt with the Blue Vixen even if it did a better job.
My wife would kill me, but it’s very very tempting, only thing that would tempt me more would be if it were a FRS1 on offer
Glad to see the Tigers logo in the window, hope this is a sign that we can beat Sarries at the weekend, look forward to visiting her once safely installed and will look nice in with the Wessex and Whirlwind, not that there is much space left!
The shadow on the wing/tail seem very dark in comparison to that on the fuslage but it seems like beermat has offered the most logical solution:)
Have a look at the coloured areas, the green I will happily agree is shadow but if there were a shadow cast on the wing, regardless of the type of panel or level of reflection, the red area is darker than the blue area.
The only way I could imagine this to be a shadow were if the wing wasn’t a flat surface but had rather large dent. Due to the variations of darkness of this area I am struggling to see how it could be a shadow.
reading through does make sense but still looks too dark to me.
Certainly is brightening up an otherwise dull day however
Looks like oil/soot to me, there is shadow from a plane on the fuslage but even the darker areas of wing above aren’t as dark as that behind the wing and on the tail, even though you would expect it to be darker on the side of the fuslage where it curves than on the flat upper surface of the wing which is essentially on the same plane as the top of the fuslage.
The only shadow I can see that matches the area in question is the underside of the outer engine and part of the tail fin, the plane above it is too far away to cast such a strong shadow, hence the ambient light/distance is diffusing it on the fuslage and would do the same on the wing.
And on further inspection there are two darker areas directly behind the engine, if a shadow were being cast it would all be the same level.
A very large photo of the two men, bearing in mind how small the original photo is, it was scanned in at 400% and may give a better indication of the shirts, I can’t quite work out how the belts are done but someone might have a better idea and this could give an indication.
The rotation of the propeller in the stripped Snipe picture by the way suggests it’s off a RR engined type (or a pusher) Not an RE.8.
John
Thanks for all the information, it’s been a huge help already, how you know some of this information is beyond me at the moment!
I assume that it is the angle of that indicates it is a pusher.
Also some more photos which may or may not be of interest but are from the same collection.

E89… and a 96 visible on the tail so could it be E8996?

Bu**er, likewise just down the road and already in the diary, good collection of stuff and a nice display last couple of years.
What’s the reason behind the decision, nothing too serious I hope and fingers crossed for next year.
Fantastic contrast between the yellow and the black, looks like a stunner, shame it’s only taxiing condition though
That’s a dirty old bird…but she’ll still fly like a dream
