As for Iraq vs. Iran, IRIAF Phantoms were only successful against flat-nose attacker variants, the MiG-23BN. In fighter vs. fighter combat they only scored twice against MiG-23MF and once against MiG-23ML, while losing eleven/twelve aircraft. That accounts for the 11:3 score in favor of the MiG-23M, which is a good result.

i flew the mig 21 which i like very much and the 25RB in combat as u know the RB has no missiles at all,,the 25PD/PDS has missiles i never flew into saudi arabia but did to jordan by the time 2 F-16A come up to me i was away!

you will understand the need of iraq :
1- we cant go to new jets as the best delivery time will be 2013 and a training for 3 years and iraq dont have a cash for more than one Squadron 9 you know saddam used to put 60% of the budget on military not it is not more than 15% )
2- The Mig-21s and -23s are not operational and outdated .. but i heard iraq is going for some 40 Mig-21 from serbia .. maybe for crushing toys 😀

thankyou almaleki for your reply in this thread from your name, i can tell ur from iraq, if u are you would know that Baathist pilots used to sit in airbases because the saddam regime did not want to loose them while non-baathist (non tikriti or ramadi) pilots like me flew the most dangerous missions in the Iran-Iraq war because i was expendable ,,i am a reccon pilot that started with the Mig21R then to M25RB WITH 1ST,84TH,96TH squadrons.

1-no country should stay with out a rapid respose fighter ability especially not iraq
2-syria is getting 8 mig-31’s now with a possible further 8 which have been ordered and are only fuselage now,,its on the net u can read it.
3-during the late 90’s our mig 25’s used to infiltrate saudi and jordianian airspace with useless scramble of f-16 in jordan and saudi and american F-15
4- u cannot compare 350 MIG 25/29 MIRAGE f-eq 5/6 TO whats now what reccon better now?
can we fly a deep recon now into another country? do u have a plane like the mig-25RB? what recon? those cessna’s??
5-if iraq want to get fighter aircraft and pilots now it can.it has the money it has the pilots,,but the americans still control things and iraq like japan after WWII will not be alowed to have capability it needs.
