If we’re honest I don’t think anyone would have started this project if we knew the recession was coming and a large sponsor wouldn’t appear. However those of us that put money in probably didn’t consider that and were happy to support a possible return to flight.
Maybe not quite what we wanted but we’ve seen her fly again and for not alot of money she can continue for a while if you have any money left.
I won’t critize the management for supplying what we all wanted to see but catching a cold in the recession.
Great news Russell
I hope to get up to see you again at some stage this year.
John
Funny that the GPO yard behind me that isn’t a million miles away was burning off cable last night. Usual pollution. However this is obviously just speculation you understand.:(
I thought there were once plans to put a Concorde inside T5 at Heathrow? That seemed a good option to me.
I would have gone for that option as well. However I can see the benefits of it being in London. I would like to see it having some sort of protection from the elements though and an interior for people to see.
I suppose it depends on whether you have any short hops where you need to move larger numbers of people. I’m not sure I can think of any particular routes.
Most turbo props work the slightly thinner routes but on a regular profitable basis. I can’t help but think that the Q400 is probably about the largest most profitable you can get in northern Europe. Other areas/routes might be different.
Sad. If I had the money to buy one you can be damn sure I would be flying it even if it had to go in to a syndicate.
Mine is the L1011. Sadly missed, loved the roar of the tail engine on start up, miss the unusual layout with about 10 toilet’s near the rear and miss the big cinema screen.
Flew on G-BBAE in 1999, sadly she is now deceased 🙁
Horrid piece of kit for the CC. Large sections meaning you get pulled all over the place. Only respite was if you could get in the lift and disappear to the galley downstairs for a while!
My memory might be fading but IIRC there were 7 loos down the back.
I was lucky and got paid for flying in it as cabin crew for Air Atlanta Icelandic (before AA Europe days). That’s your cheapest way if they ever come back to LGW to do regular charter work.
The missus and I both enjoyed Bruce’s Flying Heavy Metal series. Guess he’s a bit busy at the moment to even consider any more.
Hope you’re firing on all cylinders again soon
Anyone know how Mike Newman is getting on? Has he recovered from his back injuries?
Ahh such pleasure after so many seasons of points deductions etc. As a season ticket holder I’m enjoying every minute.
It was well worth the trip to Torquay even if it did cost to put the missus up in a spa hotel while I was at the game.
Roll on Man U.
And no it won’t distract us from the league. We’ve bought enough players to cope with both. They’ve already paid for themselves. 🙂

Always used to amaze me. Crew down the back were supposed to check regularly on those upfront and keep them supplied with drinks under sentance of death if you spilt it on the comms panel. In theory the drink should be passed round the outside of the seat or across the comms panel in an ice bucket or something to prevent spillages. Neither exactly practical.
Yet never was a proper container supplied for putting FD drinks in. Even if it was a babies drinks beaker it would be better!
Might I just add some comments from the other side of the fence as it were.
If it’s wrong then its wrong no point trying to deny it. Having said that at least Lindylou gave some response and contact details to follow up if required. I can’t say that any of the charter companies I worked for would have done so publically. I seem to recall Lindy Lou was the only one giving updates a few months ago when delays were being experienced by everyone.
Crew do sometimes have bad days, they are human. No excuses for it but somedays I was great and other days I was Victor Meldrew. Once I was having more Victor days than great days I decided it was time to leave it to others.
Tray tables are always a pain in the backside and break. A new more reliable design would help across the industry.
Most airlines do what they can to keep up the internal appearance but they (charter companies) do work them hard before they spend the money on upgrades. I would imagine even deep cleans are fairly few and far between these days to save money.
Just to give you an idea if you weren’t aware. Aircraft won’t get a complete wash on the outside when they get dirty. Normally they get a couple of belly washes to get the worst off underneath before they get a full wash.
I always liked faux leather covers as you could take them off and clean them on board if necessary. No wet seats for the next flight if someone had been sick in it on the previous sector!
I’d be interested to hear from anyone in the low cost sector about how they keep their aircraft looking reasonable most of the time.
