Afternoon Guys, I’m coming up to your part of the world sometime next month. In laws visit to make! Roughly how long would it take to get to you from Scarborough? I’ll try and see if I can persuade the Mrs to let me drive a few extra miles.
    Thanks

Oh well if no one else wants post 558 I’ll take it.
I’ll take the chance to say a big well done to everyone at TVOC for getting to this point despite all of the obsticles that came along and some of the stick some of us have given them at different times along the way.
    Well done to all.
Edit. Ok I missed out on 558 but congrats still apply!

She landed at Coningsby safely at approx 16:45.

Thanks very much XL391. Glad to hear she had a good stretch of those wings. Hopefully they got everything completed.
Rather appropriate that we are coming up to post 558 on this subject!

Not sure if anyone else has seen it but a well known High Street Newsagent/Stationers has an exclusive magazine out on the raid.
It doesn’t pretend to be anything other than a collection of articles written elsewhere but is an interesting brief read for £6.99.

Yeah not that uncommon. We had the same happen on a 737-200 on the way down to Izmir back in ’95. We’d just taken a pax up to the FD for a visit when it happen. One seriously frightened punter came back out!

Looking at the people in firefighters gear she may be powered up again today. Question for those with technical knowledge.
Could yesterdays faults have been simply corrected and she be on her way up again for a test this afternoon?
Just aware that we were told it was a just a microswitch and a couple of minor snags with the avionics. Wouldn’t you take her up to test the avionics? The gear I accept you could do on the ground.

BBC News 24 say they will be live at Brunty for landing. Estimate 15.15 – 16.00 ish.
News 24 is available live online in the UK http://www.bbc.co.uk/mediaselector/check/player/nol/newsid_7190000/newsid_7192300?redirect=7192347.stm&news=1&nbram=1&bbram=1&nbwm=1&bbwm=1
If you’re stuck at your desk!
Yes they have retracted the gear before. Did so on first flight, not just as quickly. No idea whether it was immediate the other day I’m afraid.

I can’t say I know the details but have followed the story on BBC South Today over the past few days. My understanding is that the local politicians (who used to own it) have stated that their view is that an airfield must remain. I remember hearing somewhere that a minimum of 35 years was mentioned. Hopefully that is the case.
    Update
Just checked the BBC’s last report here http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/sussex/7348883.stm
Looking at the previous owners website they were also a property management company. Seems they have been trying to rent out bits of the airfield for some time.
Look at the former Wisley Airfield. Been owned by property companies for years. Last sold a couple of years ago for £22M. Still no sign that the planners will allow anything.
Worth keeping an eye on though.

Shame because they were the only airline to really make an effort to get to know those that have an interest in aviation other than just paying passengers.
Bit I don’t understand is why lo co long hauls go bust but the short hauls tend to survive (ish).
OK a fuel increase hits a lo co as a % of earnings higher than a premium airline. But if your load factors are OK then it shouldn’t matter whether you are short or long haul. Or do you pay more per mile per seat on a short haul and hence more profit, even for a lo co?

If I was American I’d be wanting to keep it and tell the rest of the world what it can do with it’s expensive oil for a while.
