Hi Bex, Guessing a bit here. From your description this sounds like one of the non std go arounds I’ve seen over the years.
Basically a lander gets a bit close to a take off and does a left/right turn over Crawley rather than straight ahead.
Someone on a go around powering up to 3000 ft will be a bit noisy.
I’d suggest checking what landed in the 10 minutes after you saw it for a clue. Many books out there and the BAA lists will help. Alternatively someone from LGW Aviation Soc will likely help out.
    Regards

    Wisley Airfield Update

Afternoon All, I was having a cup of tea last night by the old entrance at Elm Corner off of the A3 when I noticed some work had been carried out very recently. Most of the logs blocking the entrance have been removed. Getting my torch out I noticed a planning notice attached to the old gate.
I can’t recall the name of the company and it’s so new it isnt on the Surrey CC website yet.
The application is to Surrey rather than Guildford council. It is for permission to use part of the old site for up to 5 years. A waste company wish to import horse manure and process it there for sale elsewhere.
Strangest use I’ve heard of for the old place yet! Still, as the developers paid £22M for the site last year I suppose they have to get their money back anyway they can.
I normally stop off there atleast once every couple of weeks. Any other things of interest and I’ll post them here.

    [QUOTE=FMK.6JOHN;1129401]atr42

TSR2 stands for Tactical Strike and Reconaissance, the number 2 denoted mach 2, the speed that she would achieve in level flight (easily!).

    Many Thanks FMK.6JOHN
Makes a lot of sense when you know!!
Just had a further thought. Trying not to cause offence here.
Originally coming from that area of the world myself I’m aware that sometimes things get mislaid only to turn up again later. As most large TSR parts went to Essex to be shot up I’m just wondering if anyone has checked to see if anything is actually still around or anyone local has any bits in their back gardens? Maybe an idea to ask locally if anyone has any memories?

    What if?

Mega thread. Maybe getting silly with the hints that are being made but so what? You don’t get anywhere if you don’t dream. I see 320 psi is around this evening. I’d value his opinion on what might be possible with a few old bits seeing the miracles he already performs with his old birds.
Just a couple of questions. What does TSR stand for and if this was no 2 what was no 1?

Mmm, If it’s planned and expected then its voluntary. If it’s not planned or expected it is forced upon you?

If true this could be a smart move from Boeing from an environmental point of view.
See this about the silent aircraft project
    http://silentaircraft.org/
Sounds to me like this Boeing project could have design similarities.
If they could get the basic design to work and produce a passenger version it could put Boeing years ahead of the competition.
I have to say if I were them I’d be seriously looking at the possibilities.

Further to last a couple of requests please.
The new LHR T5 spur road is not open unless you are a pass holder. Please don’t use it as a place to park up and view (as some people did today!) You’ll find yourself being moved on very quickly and asked what you were doing there in the first place. When it becomes operational it is likely Motorway regs will still apply there as well. £30 fixed penalty if you stop there without good reason.
Secondly, If you’re going to view from the 08 end at LGW please park well away from the emergency access gates.
Park in proper places and nobody has a problem. Would rather regular visitors who will notice things out of the ordinary.
    Cheers

Ouch, I didn’t expect such a response when I started this thread. Whatever your point of view atleast you have the right to have your say. A right the Vulcan helped to preserve.
As has been mentioned earlier, they now have a final figure to work to. All I was trying to say was, if you’re interested, some more money would be appreciated. Yep, there are no guarantees she will fly on without more donations, she won’t come cheap. Personal choice if you wish to donate.
One thing that hasn’t been mentioned that I’ve seen is the education part of the restoration.
My understanding is that HLF cash was only forthcoming as 558 was to be used to remind and educate people about the cold war. Whilst a lot of us may remember it, alot of the younger generation, even more over the next 10 years, do not/will not know much about it. It wasn’t simply a case of ‘wouldn’t it be nice to see a Vulcan fly again’. I seem to recall she was turned down the first time she applied for a grant.
Personally, I appreciate everyone’s point of view and am glad we can discuss it. I’m thankful to everyone at tvoc and am happy to part with more of my money to see 558 fly. If you don’t want to part with your money now, no problem, but a £1 in the tin if you enjoy a display in the future would be appreciated.

Looking at the person to the right of the nose I’d say this was a cut and paste pic. Funny all the same.

Yep Sector 1 Freq 132.840 as you’ve already worked out. I’d suggest getting hold of a copy of this simulation http://www.londoncontrol.com
It’s a good simulation but the section maps and info are accurate and are A1 for spotting.
Get the updates when they come out, they are worth it. Saves having to buy loads of charts as well.

Having spent 4 happy years working on ATR’s I can assure you it won’t go whoosh!
The only whoosh you’ll get from an ATR is if you stand behind a prop as it’s running!!
Good bit of kit for cheap hopping around though.:)

Personally I would love to see another viewing area at Gatwick. However I can’t see it being anywhere near where it used to be as airside developments have blocked the view. I’d think it would have to be above the North term or somewhere thereabouts. Yep you could do something at the 08 end in the fields. That would make sense but be a bit limited.
I can’t see that BAA would want to spend money on something for our benefit though, not enough money in it for them.
Having said that, why would Gat Pol be interested in an ID card system for enthusiasts if BAA weren’t going to do something? There isn’t anything in the terminals for us so I would expect to be kicked out if I was there just loitering around. If you’re at the 08 end I’m sure the Police already know the regular faces.
Confused as to motives/reasons and more info req is the only conclusion I can come to at the moment.

Glad to see Peter is earning enough money to pay for it. Last time I worked with him back in the mid 90’s we had to give him the dry stores at the end of each flight as he couldn’t afford the tea bags to take to his hanger!! 🙂
